The USCHO Fan Forum has migrated to a new plaform, xenForo. Most of the function of the forum should work in familiar ways.
Please note that you can switch between light and dark modes by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right of the main menu bar.
We are hoping that this new platform will prove to be faster and more reliable. Please feel free to explore its features.
My suspicion is that some of these D3 schools playing D1 hockey, and smaller schools that have "recently" moved from D3 to D1 are going to experience the same crisis that caused AIC to reclassify down.
4 of the bottom 8 D1 teams in the current NPI are RPI, Mercyhurst, St Lawrence and Niagara...
The extremely vocal RIT fanbase that ardently defended RIT's decision to move up hasn't been heard of on the forum for two years. Not sure what that means, and RPI's program is in the toilet.
This season's roster edition has only 6 upper classmen. I have absolutely no prediction for success, although playing {D1} Hobart on the first weekend after exhibition games against a couple of nascent programs should give a decent clue.
I drove down to Happy Valley to watch the game, and McKenna in particular. Soderwall was a bit shaky in the first, but gained confidence as the game proceeded. After giving up 4 (all to the same player) in 27 minutes, he became a concrete wall. He really frustrated a skilled PSU team who began...
With all of the buzz about these CHL kids (especially McKenna) in college, travelled to Penn State to see them in action against Clarkson.
McKenna is a superbly skilled skater, brilliant passer, but with much room for improvement. He certainly wasn't the best player on the ice:
+ Some of his...
I actually played "club" hockey at Geneseo 50 years ago prior to them fielding an NCAA team. In fact, I don't recall any seating in the arena.
Just my semi-informed opinion ... Geneseo may be funded as a public institution, but from student recruitment to admission and academic standards, has...
The D3 Hockey News has a decent article on the realignment. The one issue is they listed the LEC as NOT receiving an auto-bid, then appeared as though a correction was made!?
P.S. The author has an interesting take on the Public vs Private school dichotomy within the SUNYAC.
With the number of kids from the NAHL and BCHL (arguably the top two leagues outside of the USHL) Hobart's roster is likely the envy of some AHA teams.
Utica's acceptance rate is 87% -- tuition is $21k in-state/$27k out of state
Hobart's acceptance rate is 57% -- tuition is $53k in-state/$65k out of state
If you're a D1 kid getting bumped to D3 with marginal academic skills, there are considerations other than arena size if you wish to play...
Elmira is the perfect location to host:
Hosted successfully in the past
Within easy driving distance to 3 of this year's 4 finalists
Regional Airport (only Delta)
Plenty of hotels in the county
NAHL club is only tenant
4,000 seats
In a small triangle of moderate winter weather
EC's schedule is out
6 games against last season's final 4
Oswego Tourney
The rest against the {stellar} UCHC, Potsdam, Canton and some ex-UCHC teams
A month off in December
They've lost 44% of their offense with the '25 graduating class
No clue what to predict for this squad
Schedule to-date - Unsure of both Brockport games being at the MAC
Date Home Away Location
Saturday, October 25, 2025 EC Fisher MAC
Friday, October 31, 2025 EC Hobart MAC
Saturday...
UAF is a land, space and sea-grant university beholden to the Federal Gov't. Perhaps with all of the cuts being made by the present administration, Forbes is considering UAF an institution "in danger of closing" (TIC)
