The USCHO Fan Forum has migrated to a new plaform, xenForo. Most of the function of the forum should work in familiar ways.
Please note that you can switch between light and dark modes by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right of the main menu bar.
We are hoping that this new platform will prove to be faster and more reliable. Please feel free to explore its features.
He certainly was a great athlete, because in the early days of British hockey he was apparently Gretzky, Ovechkin and McDavid all rolled into one. See: Jak Bestle
271 points in 35 games?
I'm surprised by the scheduling. I would have thought they'd book at least a few low-level NEWHA teams (Assumption, Post, etc.) to virtually guarantee a victory or two. Instead they scheduled the best team in that league. Nothing is guaranteed.
Basically true. Their back end of the roster or "JV" is still incredibly talented. I remember back in the good old days when we actually had JV teams. I could sit in the Field House eating a late afternoon snack and watch our JVs (including Troy's own Jak Bestle) take on a variety of other JV...
He’s their number 2 goalie so that’s not surprising. They only have 23 skaters on their roster, so even if they go light on their first line we will clearly see mostly a team of regulars. Because it’s an exhibition I wonder if he will dress all and just manage time or actually sit a few of his...
When I was at Cornell for grad school they introduced a new aid system. They claimed it was still need-based, but the type of aid varied based on “attractiveness.” That could be in the form of a 4.0, world class violinist, or a 100mph slap shot.
I also remember taking an exam in a room...
I can think of two reasons. Our league is a middling league, behind the Big 3, competitive with the CCHA and ahead of (not by a huge margin) Atlantic Hockey and the independents. Teams 2 to 6 would be in, roughly, the 15 to 35 range nationally. I strongly suspect NIL is weighted overwhelmingly...
Jovanovic looks bigger than listed. If he can develop anywhere near what he was projected to be pre-injury he could be a scary player for us. Lindberg, on the other hand, looks smaller than his 6' listing.
I should have mentioned that for those complaining about Union’s building being off-campus, it appears far more accessible to students than Martire. The casino complex isn’t far from the lower end of Union’s campus housing. SHU’s West Campus (old GE HQ) where Matire is located has no housing...
About what we should have expected. However, I see a pretty distinct line between the top 5 (and I only include Union there because a few of their transfers look very impressive) and the bottom 7. I could see us beating any of the teams in the latter group. I could also craft a view where we...
Sacred Heart has more than 3x the enrollment of Union and spent (according to the architects) more than $80M to build their rink. Time will tell if that was a good investment for a school whose endowment is less than 1/2 of Union’s. They have been a bit lucky. With all due respect to the...
Instead of spending money to change seat colors, let’s spend it on an all-league goal-scorer. If we actually start winning games the color of the seats won’t matter because there will be bodies in them.
There is a structured academic support program to help players juggle athletics and academics. I suspect none of that existed in your day - and very little in mine. With each generation there has been a shift to increasing support resources for students in general. While many of us think back...
Smith’s Windsor team was terrible during his last year in the OHL. The year before they had a much stronger team and he scored at a more than 3/4 points per game clip as an 18 year old.
Thanks Ralph. I knew he committed there but hadn’t heard he didn’t make it to campus for the fall. I wondered how all those kids that chose a route which, at the time, ruled out ever playing in the NCAA could suddenly change directions and qualify. Many probably kept up so they’d have USports...
Well, there's another interesting test case this season. Last year's OJHL leading scorer and over-ager, Colton Smith, is at Clarkson. However, he had 3 years in major junior before that. He wasn't a big time scorer but he had successful seasons before dropping down and would definitely appear...
Probably true, but what does dominating prove? He's playing in a league that's weaker than the pre-BCHL raid AJHL he played in 3 years ago. Likewise, Ziliotto is playing in a league where he was a PPG guy at 17. If they dominate does that get them ready for the NCAA? It seems that this...
