I think there's a level at which you need to have some money to get a seat at the table to be taken seriously when you make your pitch on coaching and facilities and fan support. I'm absolutely not saying "get the checkbooks out to get the next Gavin McKenna his $750,000."
Yes. NIL money comes from outside of the athletic department. There has to be some sort of exchange, like "here's $50,000 and you need to post three instagram stories about our business" or whatever.
Alternatively, there is revenue sharing which is a direct payment from the athletic...
To me the Alfond money was making up for the 20-30 years of deferred maintenance and lack of investment in facilities.
Now we need to spend other money to put good teams on the field/court/ice.
I got shouted down earlier in the season during/after the BU series, but I still think the difference between Maine as a program that's overall fine and a Maine program that is a year in and year out contender is one or two of those big 6'4" NHL draft picks.
Having our studs be water-buggy...
I mean, Maine is 22nd in the NPI and would be 20th in PWR. Not a huge difference at this point. I don't think 5 ECAC schools are going to stick in the top 20.
