So Middlebury garnering two wins on the road vs Tufts and Conn College continues to challenge Bowdoin for second place in the NESCAC. No one, barring an unforeseen collapse, is going to catch Hamilton for first place.
Trinity manages to take one point on the weekend by loosing in overtime to...
This weekend with Bowdoin and Colby will be huge for the Panthers, and Williams as they are trailing just behind in the standings.
The other match-up I'm looking forward to seeing the outcome of is the Trinity hosting Conn College / Tufts. It will be interesting to see if a healthy Bantams...
So the games I'm really looking forward to this weekend are the Middlebury - Amherst match-up. These games between the top NESCAC rivals usually determine the top ranking of the NESCAC, and most likely hosting privileges for the NESCAC tournament. Amherst looks really good this year and Stott is...
So very much looking forward to this weekend's return to conference play. The Middlebury vs Trinity game will be most interesting. Trinity starts the season 0-4 against NESCAC opponents, and now is on a 6 game win streak. They will be extra hungry to get a few points to dig themselves out of...
I do recall on several occasions having Coach Mandigo have a freshman goaltender start during the Panther-Cardinal classic games. So having your new player(s) start in a non-conference game / tournament to give them some idea of what they are going to be facing isn't new.
That's very interesting.
The big difference between D3 and D1 (as I understand it) is the D3 colleges can't give sport specific scholarships. There is only a generic "Academic Scholarship". There are ways around this of course, but the rules are pretty tight and school administrations can make...
Watched the second half of the Hamilton-Nazareth game last night, which ended in a 2-2 tie and a 2-1 shootout win for Hamilton (no controversy about the 4th shot). Same comments apply as to the Hamiliton-Middlebury game. The Continentals have good passing, good ice awareness, and really good...
I was also impressed with Hamilton this weekend. They had excellent ice awareness, sharp passing, many of them could skate with speed. They won many of the puck battles along the wall and faceoffs. They managed to hit the post at least 4 times and had an equal number of tight battles in front of...
Well Midd managed to come up with a win vs Amherst and a tie vs. Hamilton. Midd was outplayed by both teams, but managed to hang in there against both. Andrew was doing an amazing job in goal. This will be an interesting season. The challenge for Midd will be the away games. They've struggled...
I can too. I think the best thing would be to send a pair of NESCAC teams out west for an extended stay. Three weekends, including the games against each other. More than just a single tournament. The problem is, as usual, travel costs. NCAA won't come up with the money, and the schools are...
The NESCAC fatigue is a real thing. Seeing three or four or possibly five NESCAC teams in the tournament every year is a thing. I'm just not sure which teams in the other conferences, 2nd/3rd rank, who could step up into the position of taking an at-large bid from the top of the NESCAC.
But...
Well, Midd going 1-0-1 on the weekend against two of their big rivals is a definite improvement.
NESCAC going 10-3-3 in the out of conference weekend tournaments is also encouraging.
I tuned into the Trinity - Plymouth State game on Tuesday for a few minutes between other things, just in time...
The consolation game for the Panther-Cardinal classic turned into a 6-1 rout by Middlebury over Plattsburgh. The championship game came out a 3-1 win for UWRF over Endicott. Overall a great weekend of hockey with some of the top teams in D3 Hockey.
LOL. If you want to watch undisciplined, selfish hockey I recommend watching the MASCAC games on Thursday nights. The Panthers were the best of that bunch. It's always been a great lead in to the weekend games. Gives you a real sense of just how much better everyone else really is.
https://go.flocollege.com/partner/lec - This was the link I found. Signing up for Flo College was either $107 for an annual payment or $19.99 for a month. Given the number of games in the LEC I'm planning on watching, I'm not really interested in having Flo College show me more ads.
Yes, I was...
I ended up watching the Hamilton-Canton game. Hamilton seems to be the real deal and unless someone else can step up. Trinity, the usual NESCAC powerhouse seems to be in a rebuild year.
Saw the Midd-Tufts game last night. It was a weird back and forth. Midd would set up in Tufts end for 3-4...
The home teams all went on to victory on Friday.
Trinity looses to Conn was the most surprising. Middlebury last year was great at home, and terrible on the road, I'm going to want to see them at home before I make too many more judgements. Both Bow and Colby are pretty competitive with the...
