October 3-4 @ Lindenwood
October 9 vs NTDP
October 16-17 vs Minnesota State
October 24-25 vs Alaska
Only one non conf series left to be announced now. Any guesses?
FWIW, Michigan State just lost Isaac Howard (signed with Edmonton after being traded). For as much as Penn State improved today, MSU got that much worse. They still have a pretty deep roster, but losing Howard will bring them down a little.
Some brief related thoughts:
Will be interesting to see how Solomon looks in a full year in the USHL. I expected him to be a 6th or 7th round pick, but it's a good sign that pro scouts are a little higher on him.
Second the note on Idzan... it's remarkable (in a good way) he was drafted as an...
I agree that he should make an impact right away, but I would politely disagree that 20 points would be disappointing. I think the leap from juniors (even if CHL) to NCAA is a significant leap even for older players, and any freshman scoring 20 points is solid.
With Tulk, I am a little...
Yeah it's impossible to know which recruits will break out and which might not live up to the hype- did anyone predict Gavin Morrissey would be the first line center heading into this season?
On that note, I personally think the team will be in a good spot if 3 or 4 of the 6 freshman forwards...
Of note regarding holiday faceoff: with the NCAA sending a team to the Spengler cup (which I admittedly know very little of) combined with world juniors, roster availability
could get funky for the tournament. BC will certainly send players to world juniors and probably have a few at the...
I personally feel a bit better about the talent on the roster this upcoming year compared to last, there's a good core returning, plus exciting newcomers like Tulk, Montgomery, Osburn, etc. Goaltending is a bit of a question mark - some talent between the 3 guys but very little experience.
My...
Yes, upper body injury if I remember correctly. Hopefully just a minor issue that won't nag into the summer and fall. Think with a healthy Hauser Calgary would've made a deeper playoff run, I was rooting for them with the two future badgers.
It's been known about for a little while now, but now official with Minnesota State's schedule release: series will take place October 16/17 at KC. Worth noting these days are Thursday and Friday with home football Saturday.
Will be an exciting series, obviously a lot of player / coaching...
Makes sense. Related, they committed a kid with 80 pts in the OHL today. I think its pretty fair to say Penn State and Michigan State could be a step ahead of everyone else in the B10. I'm optimistic about the Badgers for next season but the B10 competition will be stiff for sure.
I'm not an expert on the rules and house settlement stuff going on, but this tweet from Mike McMahon makes it seem like the roster limits aren't a sure thing yet. Regardless I don't see the team expanding to 27 or 28 guys when they've previously been sitting at 26 even.
Sawyer Scholl has entered the portal. Not really a huge loss, but thought he was solid this season as a 4th line center.
Also Luke Osburn was just named USHL Defenseman of the year. Should be a solid addition to the D corps for next season, I would imagine he'll get a chance to start over...
Interesting that both Whitelaw and Lucius just kinda had meh seasons this year. Whitelaw had 18 points, just one more than a year ago, and was mostly kept on Michigan's 3rd/4th lines. Lucius missed first half of the year at ASU, and wasn't particularly impactful when he was playing.
At times he did struggle, but I think he showed a bit of improvement throughout the year as he got more comfortable. I also think it can be difficult for the younger freshman defensemen to come in to the NCAA and succeed right away, and I do think think he deserves to be recognized as one of the...
Eli Pulver has been added from the portal, a Minnesota State goalie. Played in one game this year and allowed one goal, sat behind Alex Tracy most of the year. Played in the BCHL before that and had a few solid years there. I'm curious if Hastings was involved in his recruitment at all before he...
Gramme is going to Northern Michigan. Rooting for him to get his fair share of playing time and have some success there.
Aiden Dubinsky (D) from Duluth has committed to badgers, per Brad Elliott Schlossman. Should provide some solid D depth, had 4g 10a last year, he was -2 but UMD was also a...
I'd imagine Scholl is given the opportunity to start at center ahead of one of the freshmen, and really think Horbach will be on line 3/4. Seems like the lineup could go a number of different ways, though. Regardless, if the freshmen can produce and some of the older guys are a little bit more...
I don't think there's been any indication Stout will join the team this fall. I think if they add a solid defensive guy in the portal and stay healthy throughout the season this could be a good group.
On the note of freshman incoming freshman, this article from the team website groups Idzan with the other incoming freshman. Think its a pretty safe assumption at this point that he'll be here next year.
That means 2 forwards will have to leave, if Horbach stays on the wing and they grab a D...
