The USCHO Fan Forum has migrated to a new plaform, xenForo. Most of the function of the forum should work in familiar ways.
Please note that you can switch between light and dark modes by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right of the main menu bar.
We are hoping that this new platform will prove to be faster and more reliable. Please feel free to explore its features.
I'm a skeptic when it comes to NIL impact on hockey, even at big schools. It's a niche sport and no better than the #2 winter sport at a lot of big schools. While some hockey programs bring in nice revenue, the dollars are nowhere near what you can bring in for top football and basketball. For...
Comparing to where this falls on the calendar with past seasons, I think @sezenack is right in thinking this could be an exhibition/scrimmage that has no Pairwise impact.
I think that's a fair assessment. I wouldn't rule out other reasons, but I think injuries had to be an issue with Watson. We know he was carrying injuries at multiple points during his career, and I think that ultimately impacted his effectiveness his last two seasons.
Hopefully Sutter can stay healthy. Will be interesting to see how he does with some better talent alongside him, albeit in a stronger league. ND had a bad record last year, but the vast majority of their losses came in a stacked Big 10. ND comfortably beat the ECAC teams on their schedule in...
Not that engineering students have time to study ancient Norse history but still seems like an "Eri[c] the Red" pun should be in play for a thread title.
York was definitely a plus for RPI. I recall that he was pretty clearly playing through an injury during the second half 2010-11, but that wasn't disclosed, for obvious reasons. His value was underscored by the goaltending issues in the first few seasons after he left. York had the best pro...
Kasdorf was the best, in my opinion, when he wasn't hurt, but I haven't looked at the stats. He wasn't flashy but he was great at trapping shots and controlling rebounds; it would just kill the offensive flow of the opponent. RPI was a little unlucky to not make the NCAA tournament his last...
You can always come back from the portal, but the school doesn't have to honor the scholarship (the player forfeits it immediately when the player enters). There are always diamonds in the rough, but in hockey it is more rare--the kids already have more development time than other college...
I've heard from some Union fans that they felt this position needed an upgrade. The Michigan transfer's brother is going to be a senior on the Union team.
RPI's only 3PM games last year were non-conference around holidays (Thanksgiving, X-Mas-New Years week). Union looks like they have a deal with the other ECAC schools that all of their Saturday games, home and away, start at 4pm. Do any teams stay over on Saturday nights? I thought teams...
You certainly can't say Dave's recruiting was great (RPI's consistently poor special teams play is one demonstration of talent shortage), but going through old threads here over the past couple of seasons, we were also left wondering whether the team was performing to its potential and being...
Babichuck seemed like a big loss at the time, but only played one more season and retired right after he got his degree from UVM with one or two years of eligibility left.
I think that Dave Smith's recruiting got hurt by some factors outside of his control, but even considering that, the 22-23...
I agree that the first year is going to be tough, but the portal actually offers me some hope for a decent roster in a relatively short amount of time. There are only 64 DI teams and now a whole new talent pool from the CHL is theoretically available. The ECAC is still a desirable league to be...
