The USCHO Fan Forum has migrated to a new plaform, xenForo. Most of the function of the forum should work in familiar ways.
Please note that you can switch between light and dark modes by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right of the main menu bar.
We are hoping that this new platform will prove to be faster and more reliable. Please feel free to explore its features.
The Gophers men's team already did something similar with their hockey rink: "3M Arena at Mariucci" (they also have a separate women's rink, Ridder Arena, that many men's programs would love to have). The Matthews Arena demolition was kind of a forced decision due to structural issues, right?
Was only a little over six years ago; he last played for RPI in 2019. He joined mid-season in Dave Smith's first year when a couple players left after the first half. He played hard, but didn't have the speed to be a scorer in Division I. He was a good player in Division III, however, averaging...
The article is actually an attempted transcription of the podcast interview and the "$250 million" is a transcription error (there are a number of deviations from what's actually said on the air). If you listen to the podcast, Coach Lang mentions the potential for two separate $50 million phases...
Fair, but I think the seat color talk was the symptom of a generally substandard facility (the result of deferred maintenance finally coming due) and no public information about renovations/replacement. HFH has true character but the school only funded the bare minimum upkeep; now the previously...
I didn't know the ice refrigeration system was the cause of that. I had thought that the railing to those stairs by the Zamboni door just broke and they were too cheap to fix it!
Given our earlier uniform chat, it looks have to wait another year for a home uniform refresh. I thought it was a nice touch to include the club team; was that done in prior years?
A friend sent me some of his photos of the arena from Union's welcome party for their season ticket holders. It's very nice. I was told it was the same architect as the Colgate rink--definitely see some similar styling.
I agree, Tony, and I am guessing the school probably sees it the same way. The low need for assigned seating makes diverting resources to upgrades a low priority.
Look at the bright side--the off the shelf e-ticket platform that a lot of colleges use leads to a lot of spam email. While I appreciated the the seamless ticketing experience for hockey at places like Dartmouth, I don't need emails about upcoming squash matches.
Looks like the team got issued gear the other day: https://www.instagram.com/rpi_mhockey/p/DOG8MR1jpwH/?hl=en
Finally looks like they got some new breezers!
I think Cecilia, who did a great job running the season tickets and box office, got promoted last year or the year before--can't remember exactly, I skipped season tickets last year due to my own schedule. But she seemed overworked in the box office and I don't think they added more permanent...
I'm with you on the uniforms. Need to hit the reset button on those. And they have been wearing the same breezers for years; the piping on the pants hasn't matched the trim on the rest of the uniforms for years and they look dingy.
Saw in the TU that the box lacrosse team hosted at MVP Arena is moving to Canada for next season. Maybe there won't be black boards for the Mayors' Cup anymore.
Any more news on HFH renovations/future?
I like it for the academic branding, but will RPI carry it over to the athletics branding and uniforms? I have seen other schools do this, with mixed results. Doesn't look like a fit for hockey unless there's a complete refresh of the uniform design.
