The USCHO Fan Forum has migrated to a new plaform, xenForo. Most of the function of the forum should work in familiar ways.
Please note that you can switch between light and dark modes by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right of the main menu bar.
We are hoping that this new platform will prove to be faster and more reliable. Please feel free to explore its features.
With the Yac having a down year last year, and with the NCHA, UCHC, and CNE guarenteed to have multiple bids for the next few years, along with the dissolving of the NEHC, I thought it would be good to have during the non-conference part of the season a weekly roundup discussing how the SUNYAC...
True the biggest factor nowawdays seems to be money. Most acha teams require team dues from the players and those dues are often 4 digits. On the high end I know the oswego men's club hockey team has dues at around 3k per year. The advantage of d3 is you often get to cut line for "academic" and...
Preseason poll just came out and we all know who's #1 but at the bottom of the article it states the sunyac is now a 8 team tournament. No more 1st round byes.
I know its only preseason but they're have been some crazy blowouts tonight in the sunyac. Oz beat fisher 8-3. Cortland beat kings 8-0. Platty beat Rivier 13-0 holy cow and Morrisville got the receiving end of 7-0 blowout by Utica. Not to mention buff state almost lost to niagaras club team
8-3 preseason w. We for sure took our foot off the gas pedal during the 2nd half of the game and credit to fisher they caught us napping a few times. Chippy little shits too at times. That scuffle at the end made me clean my glasses to double check we were playing the st john fisher cardinals...
Thought that would be assumed but yes im talking about this scenario only in a world where a 6th GNAC team joined the d3 ranks so that the league would form. It would give them a pretty easy way in to the tournament at the very least. Conference sos would drop but also an opportunity to increase...
worth noting with the USJ announcement is now the GNAC is at 5 hockey schools. Norwich, NEC, Rivier (MASCAC), Albertus Magnus (UCHC), and USJ (TBD). LEC would still have 7 full members and I doubt babson would want to move again but losing norwich certainly hurts the LEC's dreams of ever...
Well I guess that opens up the question. Who else in the hockey program deserves to have their number retired? Dave Lair is probably the most obvious next guy up, but we have had some great goalies during the 21st century, and some of those numbers the other 80's guys put up my goodness.
Just announced Pete Sears is getting his #1 jersey retired. He will be the 1st laker in history across all sports to do so. Millberg still has his #1 jersey up on the website so not sure if hes being grandfathered for a year. Also interesting choice to do it vs skidmore instead of platty the day...
So USCHO just gave their website a massive overhaul (initial look it looks great and there's a lot more info now). Some links are broken and still seem to be a work in progress but they iron those out its looking like a great upgrade
Very true the uscho poll often has too much name brand bias (and that's coming from an oz fan) or some voter who is stuck in the past and they can't get rid of. Someone gave Nec who went 11-15-1 last year a top 15 vote in the final poll. That guy should never be allowed near the poll again.
Former laker trent grimshaw is now an assistant at middlebury. While i highly doubt we have the budget now to go to vermont maybe well see them as at the new years tournament. https://athletics.middlebury.edu/news/2025/9/29/mens-ice-hockey-trent-grimshaw-named-assistant-mens-ice-hockey-coach.aspx
Yeah he originally stated neither the mens or women's lec gets an auto bid turns out the mens do get the auto bid. The women's league is only 7 teams maybe they don't have 4 core members on that side? The public vs private argument is a little bs cause he doesn't even mention it in the uchc...
I have been told the expanded tourament doesnt happen until the next academic year in the mens thread so apparently it will still be 12 teams for 26 and then 13 teams for 27
https://www.ncaa.org/news/2024/4/18/media-center-diii-management-council-supports-expanding-football-team-sport-brackets.aspx changed it last year its 1:6 mens hockey is literally used as an example from going 12-14
Not sure if the womens tournament has the same ratio for the mens tournament but if its still the same 1:6 ratio i count 79 d3 womens teams which means a 13 team tourney this year and another at large bid has opened up.
not sure if anyone has posted about this earlier but with fisher, hiram, roger williams, and west conn joining i count a total of 91 d3 mens teams which means with the 1:6 ratio the tournament is now 15 teams and another at large bid just popped up. Unless there's some weird rules i dont know about?
