The USCHO Fan Forum has migrated to a new plaform, xenForo. Most of the function of the forum should work in familiar ways.
Please note that you can switch between light and dark modes by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right of the main menu bar.
We are hoping that this new platform will prove to be faster and more reliable. Please feel free to explore its features.
I'm glad that you enjoy the updates. I enjoy tracking what's happening in the league, and hearing what everyone thinks when you write here, too. Wishing I was seeing more NY games. It is a 2-3 hour commute to Newark, NJ depending on traffic.
It seems like recent growth in girls' hockey, at a...
The PWHL has announced the draft order and broadcast details -
"The order of selection for the first round of the 2025 PWHL Draft is as follows:
1. New York Sirens (Most Draft Order Points in ‘Gold Plan’)
2.Boston Fleet (Non-Playoff Team)
3. Toronto Sceptres (Lowest Ranked Playoff Semifinalist)...
Hailey Salvian wrote in The Athletic that as of the expansion draft night, Vancouver and Seattle have received more than 10,000 season-ticket deposits total, per the PWHL. The league also announced this week that free agency for players on expiring contracts will open on Monday 6/16 at 9am ET...
The expansion draft is this evening at 8:30pm eastern (on thepwhl.com and their youtube channel)!
Here are the players who've been signed to Vancouver and Seattle pre-draft:
Vancouver: Sarah Nurse (F, Tor.), Claire Thompson (D, Min.), Sophie Jaques (D, Min.), Emerance Maschmeyer (G, Ott.)...
New York now uses their 4th protection slot to protect Maja Nylén Persson - the 3rd D that they are protecting. She has gotten praise from Coach Greg Fargo for defending as if she was in a lawn chair, because of her comfort level in her position. She's 24 and played in the SDHL for almost a...
This is interesting info about the college coaching salaries. There is such a wide range.
The PWHL's expansion draft will be on Monday at 8:30pm eastern/5:30pm Pacific time, per thepwhl.com. No word yet on the pick order between Vancouver and Seattle.
Seattle has 2 potential signing spots in...
Vancouver has signed hometown forward Jenn Gardiner to a one-year contract, coming over from MTL. Seems like a good move in terms of picking younger, rising-star players alongside Nurse for example. Wonder whether MTL will protect Erin Ambrose now that it gets the 4th protection slot.
A couple more updates:
- Cayla Barnes (D) from Montréal to Seattle on a 3-year contract, a great player to have in my opinion
- Sarah Nurse, officially announced, from TO to Vancouver, 1-year contract - I'm guessing she could well be their captain; she's a good example of Lindsay's point about...
She is definitely within about 3 years of retiring overall. Knight has said the 2026 Olympics will be her last Olympics, and she will retire from international play. But she may still continue to play in the PW.
On your 2nd point, the league doesn't have a maximum salary for individual players...
Now official: - Maschmeyer from OTT to Vancouver on a two-year contract
- Serdachny from OTT to Seattle on a two-year contract
The Ottawa Charge announced they will protect forward Gabbie Hughes with their 4th protection spot, now that 2 unprotected players have been signed by expansion teams...
Well, you called Hilary Knight going to Seattle. I was incorrect in supposing Boston would protect her; you had a great intuition about that, Lindsay!
I feel like Knight will not only attract fans this season but also lead her team and possibly thrive even more than in Boston. Boston didn't...
I am a little surprised Knight is not protected. But it does seem debatable whether she'll be signed by an expansion team, as they would have to match her salary in Boston on the 3rd year of her guaranteed 3-year deal. Müller was injured for some time early in the season, and this may be part of...
It was sad as well to see Spooner and Nurse, TO's scoring leaders last season, drop off this season, at least partly because of injuries. Spooner missed 16 games, and Nurse 9. And Toronto's bad record in the playoffs continues.
All three goals scored in game 4 came from passes from behind the goal line, for a shot in close to the net.
And in a sign of parity between the teams, all games in the Finals ended 2-1 in OT.
The Frost have repeated as PWHL Walter Cup champions! They won game 4 in overtime 2-1, at home, on a goal by Liz Schepers, after Tereza Vanišová had tied up the game 1-1 in the 3rd. Rooney was in net for her 5th playoff win this year.
Philips was named Kloss Playoff MVP, with a .952 save...
2nd intermission of the PWHL Finals game 4, and Minnesota is up 1-0. The announcers are going to be talking to Mark Johnson in the break "to break it all down."
Yeah, it looks like current thinking on The Hockey News is that Ottawa will probably protect Philips and not Maschmeyer.
I also left out Renata Fast, whom Toronto will probably protect.
I think that we can rest assured that Boston will protect Knight during the Exclusive Signing Window and Expansion Draft! Yes, she would be eligible otherwise to be signed to an expansion team, as they can sign or draft anyone who is not on a team's "protected list" during those windows. Her...
