The irony of your situation was in the early days American TV did not show entire episodes, cutting out the more British-centric parts thinking Americans wouldn't get those jokes. You could have seen entire episodes, while Americans could not.
I never saw how much FOX paid, so I can't comment on that. But FOX did put every single race live on their network, not cable (not counting weather delays screwing up the TV timeslots). That's got to count for something.

Sure, but that's no different than SUNY Potsdam vs. SUNY Albany. Or Penn State Behrand vs Penn State. One is D1 and one is D3. And they don't share budgets.
You can't do that anymore. That's exactly why the D2 schools are all in limbo with their hockey teams. They have to be classified as D2 and cannot compete in a D3 national tournament.
