2026-27 Penn State Nittany Lions

I had not started checking the other conference members. Mercyhurst keeps losing players in the transfer portal and new coaches always seem to do better with the other person's players and boosts those players up. Maybe it is a combo of those two things.

The band getting to the home opener was awesome.

A healthy Fantin may have led to one win against OSU. The coachspeak on her injury was not very telling.

She definitely would be top 6 player.

Matilde Fantin has been recovering for quite a while now, so I hope she's doing it right. She would definitely be making a difference in this lineup.

I'm heading out, so missing the rest of this game. It's 3-0 Penn State after the first period, and freshman Sofia Ismael has two of the goals.

Mercyhurst bounced back against Syracuse.

Ismael ended up with a hat trick.

Kampersal is going to have to figure out how to keep all the players happy.

Losing players in the portal is a big deal now that the extra year from covid is over.

Retrum is still producing for Vermont who just split with UMD.

RIT has started off 0-4 with losses from Clarkson and Colgate. RIT split with Colgate last year so losing two to Colgate is a bit of a surprise.

Syracuse and Idalski and Flanagan's old assistant are up next

The series against Syracuse this week could prove to be a nice challenge for Penn State given that they will lose players (e.g. Outwater, Stonehouse) to national team camps. It will be nice to see how the team steps up to fill the void and continue their domination in conference play. The first year additions look solid and should be key in getting the wins.

It's definitely a new year when Delaware already beat Lindenwood and has a tie with Holy Cross. That's good for the conference though.

Penn State lost 5-4 to Syracuse in OT yesterday, and they outshot Syracuse 44-18. I didn't see the game, but Morgan Stickney was in net for all of regulation play, until OT when Jeff Kampersal decided to put Maddy Campbell in net instead, for whatever reason.

Syracuse split with Mercyhurst last week, so Brian Idalski is getting right to it with that program. If Syracuse wins again today, you can expect Penn State to move to a more realistic spot in the polls.

Penn State has plenty of talented players, but they're going to need some time to gel. Right now, I can't make heads or tails out of who matches well with who, with so many new faces on the roster. The only very small thing I've seen (with limited game viewing) is Abby Stonehouse and Sofia Ismael connecting well. Ismael has a wicked shot, too. Things may not look like what we got so used to the past four seasons, but when this group does gel they're going to be a lot of fun to watch.

It is an eye opener that four goals were not enough to carry the day. Back to the basics - which is 20 blocks and a .94 save percentage.

The good news is Kampersal seems to be able to make adjustments in the second game in a series.

The team had a bit of trouble without Outwater last year and it is holding true again this year.

The optimist would think it is a good sign that the team was able to put up four without Outwater and Stonehouse.

4-0 win with Campbell in net. The interesting stat is that Syracuse turned the tables on the shot totals.

The underappreciated and hard working Nicole Hall had two goals.

The Syracuse goalie was in the low .80's in save percentage.

the most overrated team in women’s hockey...
I think that's going to be a competitive title for much of the season. To me, Minnesota doesn't look like a #3 team, but right now, I'm not sure who is. Maybe a couple of power teams will emerge in the ECAC, but if not, Penn State may remain a FF contender, even if they are nothing like last year's team.

So the PSU team has no in house Seniors and it was predicted that the Conference was licking their chops at getting a shot at PSU this year and boy are they taking their shots.

The crease and the 200 ft d are obviously a work in progress. The d need to lead the team in blocks and the forwards need to keep on being pesky.

Kampersal will have adjustments for game 2, he has an extensive history of that ability.

The good news is that the team has the hardest thing which is goal scoring. 4-5 goals a game can cover up a lot.

It's going to be a wild ride with .80 percent goaltending in some games.

The staff needs to figure a way to get McCarthy unleashed - it should be a priority.
