Religion: Communion Toast Crunch

They’ll really use any words other than “rape” won’t they?
I am willing to bet the DA will add rape charges at some point. I think it was just the initial arrest charges that used the “penetrating” term. At least I hope that’s the situation.

I just read this whole parable and man it's dark.

Matthew 22

1 And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,

2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,

3 And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.

4 Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.

5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:

6 And the remnant took his servants, and mistreated them spitefully, and slew them.

7 But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.

8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.

9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.

10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.

11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:

12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.

13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

Going to put a small part of our recent trip here, as it's more relevant to the religion thread....

We recently did the last 118km of the Portugal Camino de Santiago route. Lots of time in churches, all Catholic. And to be perfectly honest, instead of the trip bringing me closer to God, it made me VERY much question the church and how it's been using people forever.

First there's the massive amount of opulent in every single church. My God, could they put more golden decorations in these places? And knowing that almost all of the churches were build in poor rural Spain and Portugal, the amount of grifting the church has been doing to people is really astounding. The only "positive" I can see in these places is job creation for people- stone masons, painters, etc. But now seeing them all ask for visitors to help restore them when the Church is still swimming in money, yea, no.

Then there's the story of Santiago, or St James. It's not hard to figure out that this was made up to help push Christianity into the Iberian Peninsula- who got there in the 8th century, and ruled the entire peninsula. Which is fine, but to the degree the church did this is kind of alarming. St James died in 44 AD, and his body was "found" in the 9th century in Spain which basically made the cathedral in the area. But here's the thing- he's VERY much depicted as a Moor killer. Like with a sword and on a horse killing people. Are you fucking kidding me? Islam didn't exist for 700 after his death, and they are twisting his legacy to be a moor killer?

It's clear that the church used separation to gain power in the area, which is the exact same story we see today. Lather, rinse, repeat.

How can anyone take the lessons of Jesus seriously from an organization that is the embodiment of the opposite of that. Or at least some parts of it- some versions are less bad, but I can't really think of one that universally is the core of the teaching, as I understood it as a kid.
