Tour stop #1 was a complete bust
Im sorry...but this is one more thing to say why he couldn't be successful? First it was the size of the ice...then the locker room situation...the lobby...now the AD? For the record I'm glad he has found support. Given its a contract year and all...hmmm.So, his quote infers that he may or may not have been supported from Blue Skies and/or the AD formerly known as SB. It's not a good look for MS7 to indirectly disparage the predecessors of his current boss.
Then again, in his lame duck year, does he have anything else to lose (besides his job) by speaking the truth.
QU looks like they’re gonna be a major problem for teams this year. Merrimack has kept the score somewhat competitive being 6-3 nearing the end. 16 goals in a weekend is damn impressive for any program at any level.Im sorry...but this is one more thing to say why he couldn't be successful? Im not convinced given the current landscape of pay to play is the main reason for UNH's issues (tho I see the point) but there comes a time when you either get the job done or not. And we arent talking about a NC here!
Agree with 'Watcher its one game. Will be interesting to see how the MC/QU game goes. Speaking of MC another trip to Lawler and on a banner raising night.![]()
McMahon's car got rear-ended and totaled after Saturday afternoon's QU game on the mean streets of Hamden CT (source MM's Twitter/X feed).Mike McMahon sees a lot of positives.
Surprised McMahon has time to cover a game, (granted it was his Warriors,) given his obsession with ASU and NCAA topics.McMahon's car got rear-ended and totaled after Saturday afternoon's QU game on the mean streets of Hamden CT (source MM's Twitter/X feed).
Almost a metaphor for the upcoming UNH Men's Hockey season ... the punch lines sometimes write themselves ...
Grouch, can you post a link to the quote in question? I haven't seen it yet, but as I've heard about it from multiple sources, and if it's anywhere close to accurate with context added, it would be the height of being an ingrate, biting the hand that fed you, etc. Far be it from me to defend former AD Rich, or especially her odious predecessor Blue Skies ... but without the latter going along with the prior HC's recommendation because, y'know ... paisan ... and the former's unique ability to turn a blind eye towards pretty much everyone not named Herrion, MS7 would probably have topped out as assistant GM of Hockeytown USA down in Saugus ...So, his quote infers that he may or may not have been supported from Blue Skies and/or the AD formerly known as SB. It's not a good look for MS7 to indirectly disparage the predecessors of his current boss.
... and thankfully, at the very least, we now are 99.99% assured that come this time next season, there will be a new sheriff running Men's Hockey in Titletown. I'm hearing some very interesting things, from quite impeccable and unimpeachable (and sometimes insolent) sources that the ground may already be shifting under MS7's feet. Not at liberty at this point to divulge any details and burn sources/ruin confidentiality promises ... but anything beats the crap we've all been subjected to for FAR too many seasons now. And with that, let me be the first to launch what we've all been breathlessly waiting for (you too, 'Watcher) ...Then again, in his lame duck year, does he have anything else to lose (besides his job) by speaking the truth.
The mere concept that any Merrimack team could ever even once be overconfident in a game against UNH probably risks breaking the time-space continuum. If UNH loses big against Merrimack on Thursday the chatter around Souza is only going to grow. If he says something along the lines of “we will start to play better when we move into the new locker rooms” I will laugh so hard…
I'll have mine in a Men's Extra Large, s'il vous plait??MS7 looking his airbrushed, I mean , AI generated best on that t-shirt. I'd like one in a men's large, please.
Hey Dan Miami U is playing field hockey today at the U so thinking of going...hope you continue to grace the boards with your game / player POV!
I think there is an over valuation of Fitzy here. He a 3 or 4 at best. De Haro is de bad. He spends more time below the line in the offensive zone that forwards. As far as the line-up, lets start from the back.
I'm not evaluating the goalies tonight. Their teammates hung them out. Go to the college hockey news box score and check out the shot chart to see how many chances QU had unmarked in the slot and on top of the crease. It's ugly. And I'd argue that the QU statistician mismarked many of the Bobcat goals, most were a little bit to a lot closer than placed...

Defensively, its hard for me to complain, as the line-up they ran out tonight and the line-up I had hoped to see were fairly close in composition. The one change they made was to pair Philbrick-Carr as a shutdown first pair and Fitzgerald-DeHaro as the second pair. I can see the reasoning for wanting a shutdown, match-up first pairing, especially against a top offense like QU, but it didn't work tonight. Was tonight an aberration in effort and performance or did it expose some real concerns in your pairings? That's what the staff will have to answer this week.
It does concern me that pairing Philbrick (-2 tonight) and Carr (-3) tonight exposes the rest of your defense. If you continue to pair them together, I'm sure they'll be far better than they showed tonight, but it leaves you with defensive risk on the second and third pairs. They're not SO good defensively that they can single-handidly shutdown opposing top lines, so I'd split them up.
Fitzgerald (-2) and DeHaro (-3) both think offense first. I don't think this pair works. DeHaro did not play well tonight. Fitzgerald did not give you what a senior who has played nearly every game of his career should give you.
The excitement for this season's defensive corp came from two newcomers, Vass (-2) and VonRichter (-2), but this pairing had a BAD game. Vass was terrible in coverage and left several Bobcats alone in high-danger areas, while VonRichter turned over a ton of pucks and looked over his head in his collegiate debut. They need to be a lot better individually and together. VonRichter was given a ton of responsibility, playing top-four minutes and quarterbacking the top PP unit. Vass was also on the ice for two QU power-play goals against.
Here's how I'd adjust the defense:
Fitzgerald - Carr | This is your most experienced and consistently dependable pair. They can be balanced and UNH needs them to anchor the defense.
Philbrick - VonRichter | They gave VR responsibility for a reason. Hopefully a lot of tonight was a lot of nerves. Philbrick is steady & can cover him.
Vass - DeHaro | They both need to be much better, but they should compliment each other if they settle down.
* VR, Vass & DeHaro could/should be pushed by Kennedy and Plandowski in the weeks ahead. Kennedy is big and long, could he simply give them dependable coverage and first passes? Plandowski is now a third-year college student, so you would expect he'd be calmer than what we saw from some

We can say this is just one game but can you fix this much of an atrocious effort in less than a week?
I did make the trip and so glad I did! UNH was coming off a big OT w over AE rival UVM (last uears AE Championship game which UNH won in OT). Very impressed that they could hang with the Red Hawks for 3 periods then it was all Miami as they cruised to a 5 -0 win.I was expecting another ten goals hung on the Wildcats this afternoon, but a crisp 5-0 win will do...
Miami FH is having a good year. Their losses thus far are against #16 Louisville in OT, by one on the road at #6 Iowa, 2-0 at #1 Northwestern, and by a goal at #3 UMass (who they outshot 30-5). They have ranked wins over #13 Indiana and #17 Liberty, and should have hung on for victories over Louisville and Iowa, and seemed to outplay the Minutewomen...
Did you make the trip? If so, how did you think they looked?
