Who's next for a move up to D1?

Know Oklahoma State has come up here before, but was surprised to see the amount of transfers going to play for them. No groundbreaking recruits, but pulling in a number of low end D1, USports, and fmr CHL guys is a big push especially for M2. Donor support seems murky for jumping to NCAA but wouldn't be surprised to see OSU push for M1.

Yeah. With Oklahoma State being a D2 Independent, they can go with just about anyone. I went out to see who was in their league that would make sense from a rivalry standpoint, but being Independent opens so many doors. (Arkansas, any of the Texas teams).

Not sure if Oklahoma will try to get another game, but you could have a good tussle with them and UNLV (D1 league rival). I see Arizona State, Arizona and Colorado are also in their league. Central Oklahoma is as well, could be an interesting "local" matchup.

Other, reasonably close bus trip teams, could include teams from Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, N. Mexico, I don't know what those teams are.

with the high raising costs in this country and the tariffs on the equipment I see less teams in the future. AIC and Mercyhurst was the start of a popping bubble. How and why are smaller schools going to fund 1 sport that costs millions of dollars? look at some of the Atlantic and CCHA teams you are paying the head coach $150,000-$250,000 and less than 1,500 fans in the stands? and very little season ticket holders. I f I am running the school budget at Cansius, Niagra, Brown, Robert Morris, Ferris State, Lake State, Holy Cross, Bentley, and on an on I am cutting Hockey all day long.. How about give that money back to reduce tuition.

Lake State receives $1 million donation every year for the next 10 years from a donor that's accretive to their regular operating budget. They are on solid ground financially and have more than enough money to fund their program.

Whether there are enough students to keep the institution going is a different and separate question. If Lake State cuts hockey it's because the university went under.

Brown is an Ivy, enough said. Bentley and Holy Cross are both competitive for programs playing in modern arenas. That and Bentley has a $300+ mil endowment and Holy Cross is $1+ bil. The state of the economy and demographic/financial challenges in higher ed should definitely raise conversations about costs (take AIC exiting D1 for example). But at the same time, a lot of these programs have been around for decades, are backed by endowed/pledged donations, and help tie in with the wider community.

With programs like Mercyhurst that cut their hockey program, realistically the money won't go back towards lowering tuition. Let alone, would it even lower tuition at all. Most "savings" end up going back into the balance sheets and are never seen by students and employees.
