It does look like Jeff Kampersal and staff have done a great job with recruiting, for sure. The incoming freshman class looks to have some real talent, and it's going to be fun to watch them develop their game at D-1.
It would've been nice for Maddy Campbell to get more looks as a freshman last season, but I get it - Kampersal had to keep Katie DeSa primed for tournament time. Campbell didn't really face anything much, so she's going to have to beat Morgan Stickney for the starter job, and I think Stickney has just as good a chance at that spot.
That's a big plus, having returning players who know what it takes to win a conference title, and then advancing in the national tournament, too. That experience is priceless for a team with only one senior (transfer) and eight incoming freshmen.
With all these new freshmen coming in, I was curious to see if anyone was going to take Janecke's #15, but nope...no takers.

I'm confused, which is a pretty easy feat, but how does a rostered D3 student-athlete play for a high school team? Isn't Bishop Kearney considered high school?

She's on the Cortland roster for 2024-25, but not on the 2025-26 roster because she was at BK Selects. So two years ago she was in college, but last year she was in high school...I don't get it.
they play a jr like schedule but are very much a high school; that's their entire premise, its not just a hockey academy, you get the high school experience along with the hockey. if she wasn't enrolled at the school, even more intrigued how that worked and if that would fly for others going forward and/or maybe it was a unique goalie situation...someone do some digging!
First, I thought, "Well, maybe if she didn't play any at Cortland she could go back to BK Selects", but that makes no sense. It's still going from college back to high school, and I wouldn't think anyone can do that, because she'd be out of high school eligibility just to get into Cortland in the first place. I hope someone clarifies how she did that.
A lot of prep schools let you do a post-graduate year. Not a lot of people, at least in this sport, take advantage of it.
Okay, thanks eastcoastgopher - it just seems odd that even a prep school with post-grad availability would take back a player who left and did a year of college (and maybe what's more odd is a player doing that). In any case, if she didn't get any time at D3 Cortland, she knows she'll be a practice goalie at Penn State. She will still walk away with a Penn State degree, so win/win for her.
I have no idea at all how 19U programs work (obviously), so thanks for that explanation. I thought the 19U programs were just straight-up high school.
