2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season: Non-Minnesotans arguing about the weather

It's TS Arthur now,
In name only. NHC has no idea what they are doing. The center is not only about 50 miles away from where they claim it is, it's moving toward the west, when they claim it's moving toward the northeast. It's pretty obvious that they didn't even both to look at a satellite loop, which clearly shows this.

Oh, so they're recent political appointees, not actual college-educated meteorologists....

Europe is roasting

On the bright side: This is the coolest summer of the rest of your life!

I love the heat. I just want the babies to stop mewling.

I'm sure you feel the same when somebody cries about 0 degrees.

You're a human being, you're tougher than that. We did this without HVAC in the old days. -10 to 110 is fine. Below/above that, then you can snivel.

No clothes, teeth always hurt, constant fleas, dies at 20 of minor infection, doesn't bitch

Novara Media (London) is doing live newscasts from home this week instead of the office because their streaming equipment can only run at a maximum of 24C (75F) and even with all the cooling fans the studio only gets "down" to 32 (90)

I think we can aspire a bit higher than our Neanderthal ancestors. Surely all of them believed in pure Darwinism (though they were not conscious of it) and never envisioned air conditioning or forced air heating.

I do not expect many first-gen Desis, for example, to be prepared for 0F. 0C is another matter, unless they're from southern India.

People from the Levant, OTOH, should be used to 0C, as they deal with frost every winter, particularly at higher altitudes.

This is the argument behind raw water/milk, going without medical treatment, home birth etc. "Our ancestors gave birth at home (or in the fields) so why shouldn't we?" Well, yes, but half the kids died in childbirth and the survival rate wasn't much better for the mother. Maybe, just maybe, we should try to do better?

Shhhhh... Think of raw milk as the test balloon and go with it...

Hey, I'm trying to promote raw water. I have a whole river flowing through my backyard. Only $20/gallon.

Granted, the river was the most polluted east of the Mississippi and prompted Ed Muskie to write the Clean Water Act; and we still routinely see chunks of pollution floating down the river, but hey, they don't need to know that... And yeah, it's technically salt water but that just means more nutrients!

Just call it mineral water and you’re good
