Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

Didn’t BU have a player like 10 years ago who got caught gambling and was allowed to come back? This whole thing is a storm in a teacup as far as I’m concerned.
A BU fan would be sure, but I think allegations were made but no one ever followed up. (The NCAA probably responded by putting Cleveland State on probation for two more years)

Was in Orono for something, decided to go up to Campus to check out Alfond as I haven't been in it since its been done. Then I thought shit I never went to a game this past season. First time in Almost 40 years I didn't go a hockey game in Alfond, WTF. Walked around and saw my standing room spot is gone, that sucks. The lobby is nice, didn't go into the Shawn part of the building as wasn't sure if public is welcome in there? Still can't get over that I didn't go to a game. Went to Vegas for the Frozen four and no Alfond.

Saw where they are excavating Long Rd all the way to the mall.....big doings on campus these days.

The elevator is shaft is going up in the BBall Arena. Parking lots getting moved and repaved. I assume they are in a hurry for some parking in the area to be ready for fall. Is there any construction else where on campus?

I’m thrilled with these OOC matchups, all games that Maine will have a shot at winning against teams that will be either in the tourney or close to it.

If these OoC matchups all become reality, then I think most fans would be satisfied with that, including myself. Facing Cornell in New York for Red Hot Hockey is pretty awesome actually. Miami is also no longer the dumpster fire they were just a short time ago, so that should be a competitive series. I do have to say I am relieved that it appears that the schedule won't just be Quinnipiac and the Seven Dwarves again.

I suspected Miami would be on the schedule. Maine's AD Jude Killy was a longtime employee there so he likely pushed for the series. If Maine plays 34 games then that leaves 5 unaccounted for. There's still some unknown openings for big names in October. My prediction is Penn State/Omaha/Wisconsin on the road, Stonehill or Long Island at home and ? at Portland.

I don't think anyone expected a return trip to Lindenwood, but their schedule release does not include Maine.

Which of the seven dwarves was Denver?

ECAC conference games are out. I'd guess the MSG game is the last weekend of November, looking at Cornell's schedule. Quinnipiac still has the majority of October available for their trip to Orono.

I believe Red Hot Hockey is always Thanksgiving weekend.

Some news from the women’s hockey team this morning: HC Molly Engstrom has left the program for the pros, she’ll be an assistant for Detroit’s PWHL expansion team. A national coaching search will begin immediately, and I believe admin is going to push to get this one right, because they want both squads that call the Ol’ Girl home to be competitive.

Agreed. I think Engstrom underachieved a bit and really never seemed like the right fit IMO. This program must be funded pretty well now and obviously has top notch facilties to work with. I think that the applicant pool will be deep.

I think they would be much better off putting the money towards women’s basketball, but I’m sure if the program was ever cut there would be all sorts of outrage.
