TRP: Free of political butthurt since 1999.

I saw Bugonia last week. To this day, I don’t know how to describe it with spilling the content. It really did surprise me at various moments from start to end. Things that I fully expected to happen didn’t. At the same time, they unexpectedly leaned into things I completely dismissed from the movie did happen. Very well done.

Today marks 6 years of sobriety.

On the journey, I've learned what caring for myself actually means.

In the past 6 years, I've learned how to make hard decisions and stand by those decisions.

I learned there is a line between "a little treat once in awhile" and "mindless self indulgence."

I'm learning that "I wanna see you eat, just not at my table" is a better way of dealing with people who hurt me.

I'm learning that acceptance doesn't solve my problems. Taking life as it is, not as I want it to be keeps me grounded and allows me to solve problems with what's available, not what I wish I had.

I'm learning that impermanence can be a good thing. Nothing lasts forever, and I've learned how to appreciate instead of attach.

I'm learning that in the words of Stephen King, "You just couldn't get hold of the things you had done and turn them right again. Such power might be given to the gods, but it was not given to men and women, and that was probably a good thing. Had it been otherwise, people would probably die of old age still trying to rewrite their teens."

And I'm learning that Alanis Morrissette was correct too:

"You live, you learn, you love, you learn
You cry, you learn, you lose, you learn
You bleed, you learn, you scream, you learn"

And it's a great day to be clean, sober, and ALIVE!

My daughter has a girl on her softball team whose name is Jetta. Immediately, I ask my wife if the girl was conceived in one or on one because there’s not other reason I can conceive that would cause that name to actually happen.

Then I look it up and learn that it actually has real, human roots with the Germans, a nickname for Henrietta and Marietta. I shouldn’t have looked it up, my first assumption was far more entertaining.

Putting this here since I don't think it needs its own thread.... But...

The NIL Era of NCAA sports took an interesting twist this week, from Eastern Michigan U in Women's Golf of all places...

Apparently they hired their coach (Josh Brewer) away from Georgia, and have a couple of alums willing to bankroll this along with NIL. Through the latter, they added twins Jasmine and Janae Leovao, both of whom are from California and live/train out there. Apperently they just enroll in online classes and only fly East to meet up with the rest of the team at tournaments. They are never on-campus.

They were able to turn the circumstances into a Top-4 finish at the NCAA Finals, as they fell to Stanford in the match play semi-final after beating Texas and the top individual player of Farah O'Keefe.

So yea, a team that was ranked in the 220's just two years ago and historical nobody's basically paid their way to the top... #MACtion
