CHL to NCAA Recruiting Megathread

Everett wins 5-3 over Chicoutimi, shots 37-25, pp 0/3-1/1

Huang (Harvard) and Massé (UMass) each had a goal for the Sags, Shantz (SCSU) with a goal for the tips.

Couldn't watch it at all bc I'm out of town

I slept in after driving all day sunday, but Kitchener and Everett played at 6pm. This matchup felt like the biggest test of the tournament

6-2 win for Kitchener. Everett outshot the Rangers 42-28, not their usual MO but it worked out. Kitchener convinced themselves halfway through the 2nd period that it is now the 3rd and put the game out of reach. Landon DuPont took quite the beating and was laboring at points, you could tell he wasn't at his best. The last time the Silvertips gave up 6 goals was November 15th.

Cameron Reid (Michigan) 1g3a, Rylan Gould (Bemidji State) 1g1a

Great tilt between Jaxsin Vaughan and Andrew MacNiel

Christian Kirsch (Quinnipiac) with 40 saves on 42 shots. I think he took the "weakest link of Kitchener" and "worst goalie in the tournament" personally. In the other net, Anders Miller has not looked like himself and some of those goals were very uncharacteristic of him.

Chicoutimi/Kitchener play at 6pm, last round robin game will be tomorrow.

current records:
Kitchener 2-0
Everett 1-1
Chicoutimi 1-1
Kelowna 0-2

potential scenarios:
Scenario 1: Kitchener beats Chicoutimi and Everett beats Kelowna. -Kitchener to the final, Everett gets home-ice vs. Chicoutimi in the semifinal.
Scenario 2: Kitchener beats Chicoutimi and Kelowna beats Everett. -Kitchener to the final. If Kelowna wins by two or more, Rockets advance to semifinal, Everett vs. Chicoutimi tiebreaker.
Scenario 3: Chicoutimi beats Kitchener, Everett beats Kelowna. -Kitchener advances to the final, unless Chicoutimi beats the Rangers by four goals, then Chicoutimi advances to the final. Non-final team plays Everett in semifinal.
Scenario 4: Chicoutimi beats Kitchener, Kelowna beats Everett. -Chicoutimi advances to the final, Kitchener to the semifinal, Kelowna vs. Everett in the tiebreaker.

the 1st one seems most likely

Never seen as dirty of a play as that Tourigny stomp. wow just wow
yea. not sure what he was thinking. Jordan Tourigny (Northeastern) on Christian Humphreys (Minnesota), not his first incident in the tournament- he cross checked Sam O'Reilly in the face earlier, and in the Kelowna game he gave Carson Wetsch a nasty slash to the back of the leg. Humphreys didn't return to the game. At least he gets time to rest before the finals.

Kitchener wins 3-2, shots were 18-28 in favor of Chicoutimi. Kitchener remains dominant in faceoffs. With this result, they will be in the finals. The Rangers become the first CHL team to appear in 7 Memorial Cup finals, having made it in every single prior appearance, winning 2 of those.

Edwards (Quinnipiac) named played of the game with 2a, Kirsch (Quinnipiac) with 26 saves on 28 shots. Ricard (Omaha) and Lachance (Merrimack) with the Sags goals.

Everett/Kelowna 6pm PT. If Kelowna loses, their tournament is done

Jordan Tourigny has been suspended the rest of the tournament, which ends his junior career. per Rangers Humphreys "is in good spirits but continues to be evaluated"

reportedly Daxon Rudolph is down to Denver, Michigan State, and BC. he's one of the high end draft eligible D from the CHL, the others being Verhoeff, Carels (NoDak), Reid (Michigan State), Lin (DU), Villeneuve (BU)

Another NTDP grad going to the CHL- Michigan commit Abe Barnett will be signing with Brantford. Instead of licking their wounds, they immediately started snapping up not quite college ready committed players, like UMass commit Jason Musa and Penn State commit Owen DeGraff. Of note is the Michigan connection- as of 2024, the Hyman family owns the franchise and runs it. Zach is the President, dad Stu is the CEO, and brother Spencer is the GM and VP. If a Michigan commit is a free agent or has his rights traded to the Bulldogs, there's a solid chance they end up in Brantford.

07 G William Lacelle commits to Omaha, one of the top draft eligible goalies in the league. He was spectacular for Rimouski as Memorial Cup hosts last season and then was sent to BLB for a haul at the deadline. He was always planning on college eventually, not surprised it has come up. Of note- Lacelle is hard of hearing- born 95% deaf in his left ear, later lost 50% in his right. He will join BLB captain Vincent Desjardins at Omaha

for tonight-
Scenario 1: If Everett beats Kelowna, Everett vs. Chicoutimi in the semifinal, Everett would be the home team with the better record.
Scenario 2: If Kelowna beats Everett by 1 goal, Everett to semifinal, Kelowna vs. Chicoutimi tiebreaker game.
Scenario 3: If Kelowna beats Everett by 2 goals or more, Kelowna to semifinal, Everett vs. Chicoutimi tiebreaker game.

The tiebreaker game is pretty rare, last needed in 2023, and wasn't needed for nearly a decade before that

Everett wins 4-0, Kelowna is eliminated. Great bounceback effort from Anders Miller after some shaky performances, 28 save shutout.

Congrats to Jaxon Pisani (Providence) for getting his first CHL goal. One thing to keep an eye on- Landon DuPont took warmups but ended up unable to play after that injury vs Kitchener, OA F Nolan Chastko played defense in his stead. Didn't end up mattering, but against the Sags or Rangers his availability could be crucial

Everett and Chicoutimi meet in the Semis on Friday at 6 pm PT/9 pm ET, Everett gets last change. The winner of that game will play in the Finals vs Kitchener on Sunday at 4pm PT/7pm ET.

Stats leaders in the tournament round robin:
Points:
Pridham 6
Edwards (Quinnipiac) 5
Reid (Michigan) 5
Vanhanen 5
Lefebvre (UVM) 4
O'Reilly 4
Lecompte (Northeastern) 4

Goals:
Pridham 4
Vanhanen 3
Lefebvre (UVM) 2
O'Reilly 2

Maxim Massé (UMass) leads the tournament in shots with 14

All of the goalie categories are led by Christian Kirsch (Quinnipiac):
3-0-0, 1.33 GAA, 0.957 save %

While Miller's numbers improved, his save % is still sub .9, though he joins Kirsch in the shutouts.

Everett/Chicoutimi play in the Mem Cup semifinal at 6pm

Landon DuPont is expected to be ok to go

08 F Ryder Cali flips commit to Providence from Harvard, played for North Bay Battalion. Projected to go early day 2 in the 2026 draft

07 F Illia Shybinskyi commits to St Lawrence, plays for 2027 Memorial Cup hosts Guelph Storm. He’s from Ukraine and has represented them internationally at U18 and U20 levels. In most of those they are in the Tier 1A level, so one level below the top tier.

Speaking of, with the IIHF ruling on Russia and Belarus eligibility, expect a lot of EU nations to drop out of competitions. Lithuania already announced their withdrawal, i’d imagine the teams currently playing at worlds will wait until the end of the tournament to make their statement. The most vocal about this has always been Czechia

DuPont is in. halfway through the semi-finals is 3-1 Everett.

Jeff Marek reports that Carter Meyer has informed NTDP that he won't return. Presumably he will join his brother in Quebec, the Remparts seem happy to eat the transfer fee.

Western Michigan commit 08 F Anthony Thomas-Maroon will sign w the London Knights per Muskegon Lumberjacks. He is a legacy Knight, his father Pat played for London after he was drafted to the NHL in 2007.

Everett beats Chicoutimi in the Memorial Cup Semifinals 6-1. Shots were 36-26, power plays 2/3-0/2.

Landon DuPont named player of the game with 2g, Shantz (SCSU) 1g, Busch (Penn State) 1a, Gould (Bemidji State) 1a. Miller made 25 saves on 26 shots, another solid game for him.

Liam Lefebvre (UVM) fought Jaxsin Vaughan and held up pretty well. He was the biggest standout for the Sags through the entire tournament, him and Lecompte (Northeastern). Lecompte and Bulans (BGSU) assisted on the one goal they got.

Final will be between Kitchener and Everett on Sunday, it should be a lot of fun. I think a lot of people were expecting this matchup.
