Happy International Workers Day

May Day Strong has a broad set of demands, including “tax the rich” and abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) — a call that comes as Republicans voted on Wednesday on a budgetary measure that would fund the agency under the Department of Homeland Security.

It also calls for ending war and “expanding democracy”, according to a statement from the group.

While the tent is broad in nature, organisers stressed that it is a result of a wide set of challenges facing the US worker.

“Since Inauguration Day, corporate billionaires and the Project 2025 agenda have driven attacks on our rights and freedoms, including by targeting workers based on how we look, the language we speak, or the work we do, and undermining our First Amendment rights and our freedom of association,” New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO President Brendan Griffith said in a statement to Al Jazeera.

We flew Spirit a lot in my day. After 9/11 drove up airfares, it was pretty much the only airline my dad would pay to fly unless we were going somewhere they didn't operate. Lots of memories, including these bangers:

1. Getting trapped in the plane, parked on the apron for over 3 hours after landing at DTW during the Great New Year's Storm of '98
2. Getting stuck overnight in Vegas in 2005 in a nasty airport hotel, because the inbound pilot had a heart attack and they had to put the aircraft down in Denver to get him to a hospital
3. Getting airsick for the only time ever on a flight to Denver in 2013, though the booze I pounded the night before probably had a lot to do with it

We were on the same ramp, but over in one of the NW planes. That was the day we changed to carry on only, since our bags were so very lost. Never tried Spirit, though.
