With UNH looking for two goalies, one of which I imagine will transfer in, they'd be foolish not to kick the tires on both Silverstein and Shea. And removing Quinnipiac vs. Brown from the conversation, I'm not sure I wouldn't actually prefer Tyler Shea...
Shea started his career at Michigan but did not make an appearance as a FR. He only started 16 games in his first two seasons at Brown but posted SPCTs of .901 (10 Games) and .936 (6 games), while backing up Lawton Zacher (.909/.917, respectively). Zacher, of course, transferred to Northeastern ahead of this season and was Second-Team All-Hockey East...
This season, Shea posted a .911 SPCT in 26 games behind a Brown Bears club that finished 57th in goal against and 61st in shots on goal against. While Shea actually bested Zacher in 2024-25 SPCT by 0.019 percentage points, he easily outpaced his back-up in 2025-26 (former Denver netminder Freddie Halyak) by 0.030. I think he'll be a pretty nice get for someone, and he fits UNH's timeline perfectly with a chance to split/mentor RLH, before the latter takes over the crease for (hopefully) three strong seasons.
Silverstein, meanwhile, despite far more fan fare, shares a stature and story with Shea (both are only 6-0, 180ish LBS). Silverstein started his career sitting as a FR at Boston College, then transferred to Quinnipiac and posted respective SPCTs of .903 (24 games) and .912 (18 games), but he did so in 2025-26 for a Bobcat team that ranked 1st in fewest shots allowed per game. He posted a worse SPCT than his tandem partner in 2024-25 as Qs 1-A, but was the better of the two this season as Qs 1-B. Silvestein also has TWO seasons of eligibility left, which complicates the timeline...
So Shea would come with equivalent to better SPCT numbers despite facing many more shots on goal (and likely more difficult SOG), lagging behind in games played solely because he backed up the 2025-26 HE 2nd-Teamer for two seasons at Brown...
This is all pending an eye-test scouting report, of course. Hopefully, UNH calls both on Transfer Portal Day One...
