CCHA Pick ‘Em 2025-26: Arrivederci Rico!

Congratulations to NoClue who won the week with a whopping 25 points - 4 points ahead of the second best finisher. Wow and congrats! Stick taps to Footballguy51 and Section P who were the only contestants to correctly pick the Tech/Northern split. Also, congratulations to NoClue who with this weekly win now finds themselves atop the leaderboard with mbenecke now lurking just 2 points back.

On to the bonus. At the time these results are being published the CCHA is listing 16 special teams goals while both USCHO and CHN are listing 15. As Meatloaf says, two out of three ain't bad so the staff at Pick 'EM HQ will go with the majority of 15 special teams goals. On Friday, 4,163 fans crammed into the Berry to see Tech top Northern while on Saturday 4,071 fans stuffed themselves into the Mac to see the 'Cats upset the Huskies. Add 'em up and you get 8,101 - 8,300. Hats off to Berger21 and NoClue who were a perfect 10 on the bonus this week! Here's how the bonus paid out:

Let's give it up for our week 17 winner beaverhockeyfan who won the week with 24 points. Very nice! Also, let's give a vigorous round of stick taps to John J. MacInnes who, out of two ties on the weekend, was the only contestant to pick up any points from the Bowling Green/Notre Dame series. As Dan Rather would say, "Courage!" If you were wondering, six contestants correctly picked Northern to win on Friday. "Courage!"

We have a new leader at the top of the standings, mbenecke posted 22 points on the week to take over the top spot from NoClue by 2 points. It looks like this is going to be a dogfight all the way to the finish. Puckdude40 is making a late run, 13 points back - is there enough time to catch the leaders? Same with iowabasedtraveller who slipped a bit this week.

At the 5:52 mark of the third period on Friday (45:52 total elapsed time), BG's Noah Morneau scored the game tying goal in South Bend. At the 19:51 mark of the second period on Saturday (39:51 total elapsed time), BG's Brayden Crampton scored the game tying goal in Bowling Green. Add 'em up and divide by 2 and you get 42:52 which equals 43 minutes when rounded up to the next minute. Congratulations to John J. MacInnes who hit the nail on the head and picks up all 5 bonus points. Here's how the bonus paid out this week:
Code:
Contestant Bonus
John J. MacInnes 5
Icd80 4
Manurespreader 4
beaverhockeyfan 3
puckdude40 2
SectionP 2
Soulbeaver 2
Bronco Hockey Fan 1
CFBHome 1
mbenecke 1

And with that 4-point performance this week we now see Icd80 in the drivers seat in the Race for the Sauer with longtime leader iowabasedtraveller trailing by 2 points and StevieYNot and iwearpurple lurking just 4 points back.
Code:
Contestant Bonus
Icd80 31
iowabasedtraveler 29
StevieYnot 27
iwearpurple 27
Soulbeaver 25

Since the field did such a rotten job last time we did total PIM's we'll run it again - but with only 6 games this time. We gotta do better on this one, gang.

In the Battle for the Beagan NoClue remains in first though mbenecke has made up some ground.
Code:
Contestant Points % Games
NoClue .690 163

MTUHuskyGold .654 163
GoNanooks .653 149

There are only 4 weeks left in the regular season.

Week 18 congratulations go out to BillyLP who walked away a winner by posting a score of 20!! Stick taps go to Berger21 and iwearpurple who were the only two contestants to pick Ferris to win over Bemidji on Friday and went 3-for-3 on the Friday picks. Also, stick taps to a lot of contestants who went 3-for-3 on the Saturday picks. Unfortunately, those sets were mutually exclusive; no one scored 100% on the final this week. With three weeks left in the season mbenecke still remains the leader with NoClue in second though iowabasedtraveller is making a late season push.

We reran the PIM bonus this week since the first time we did it no one got any points. Not this time, folks. There were a cool 100 penalty minutes on the weekend aided by two 10-min misconduct penalties in the BG/St. Thomas series (one for a really scary hit on Friday and one 'cause a dude shot a puck at the ref after the final whistle blew on Saturday). Three contestants got this one correct so let's give it up for BillyLP, iowabasedtraveller, and Soulbeaver! Here's how the bonus played out:
Code:
Contestant Bonus
BillyLP 10
iowabasedtraveler 10
Soulbeaver 10

Berger21 6
John J. MacInnes 6
mbenecke 5

The Race for the Sauer is now very different from last week. iowabasedtraveller now leads the way with 39 bonus points with Soulbeaver lurking just 4 opints back[/b]. Here's how it looks this week:
Code:
Contestant Bonus

Soulbeaver 35
beaverhockeyfan 32
Icd80 31
mbenecke 29

In the Battle for the Beagan there was no movement between the top contestants; NoClue still leads mbenecke with puckdude40 in third.
Code:

NoClue .687 169

GoNanooks .658 155
Tommiealum93 .656 158

There's no bonus question this week, the yearly bonus will be added to everyone's scores instead. Also, later in the week the first bracketology will be posted.

Hats off to BillyLP who wins week 19 with a total of 22 points. Well done! Stick taps to SectionP who was the only contestant to correctly pick the Lakers to upset the Huskies on Friday. Also, stick taps to Hockey John and Footballguy51 who were the only two contestants to correctly pick the Beavers to top the Mavs on Saturday. mbenecke stays atop the standings and increases his lead over NoClue to 5 points. This is shaping up to be an exciting finish!

The yearly bonus paid out this week. Should a team other than BG score 9 or more goals over the next two weeks the bonus will be adjusted accordingly. There were 5 contestants who have the Falcons with 9 goals on the year. Here's how that looks:

Congrats to mbenecke for posting 23 points and winning the week! And with this win mbenecke's lead at the top of the standings has grown to a whopping 17 points over NoClue and iowabasedtraveler. There are 34 points available in week 21 before subtracting points for OT's and while the staff at Pick 'Em HQ has yet to run the final regression analysis, we can safely say that NoClue and iowabasedtraveler will have some serious work to do to catch up.

Over the weekend the Tommies and Vikings totaled 119 SOGs. No one picked up all 10 points, however, six contestants picked up 9 points. Here's how the bonus paid out:
Code:
Contestant Bonus

Bronco Hockey Fan 3
NoClue 3

iowabasedtraveller remains atop the leaderboard in the Race for the Sauer and is now holding a 4 point lead over Soulbeaver with 10 bonus points up for grabs in the final week.

The Battle for the Beagan is now tied with mbenecke and NoClue in a one-week Thunderdome cage match for bragging rights. Who will come away with the hardware? Don't know, but remember...two men enter, one man leaves. GoNanooks remains lurking in third but will need to catch fire this week and hope the leaders stub their toes to claim the trophy.

Just a sincere 'thanks' from me for being so prompt in posting these weekly updates.
By Sunday afternoon, I am curious to see how I did relative to everyone else and, 9 times out of 10, you have already posted the weekend update when I look.
It is appreciated!

Man, the CCHA is a mess going into this last weekend. I don't have several hours to look into every possible tiebreaker scenario, since the unbalanced schedule, the possibility of multiple teams tying for a spot, etc., is just a mess.

Augustana 50 pts, season is complete, can finish anywhere 1-5
St. Thomas 48 pts, at Bemidji, can finish with 48-54 points, 1-5
Michigan Tech 48 pts, hosts Bowling Green, can finish with 48-54 points, 1-5
Mankato 46 pts, hosts Northern Michigan, can finish with 46-52 points, 1-5
Bowling Green 44 pts, at Michigan Tech, can finish with 44-50 points, 1-5
Bemidji 32 pts, hosts St. Thomas, can finish with 32-38 points, 6-7
Lake Superior 29 points, host Ferris, can finish with 29-35 points, 6-7
Ferris 18 points, at Lake Superior, can finish with 18-24 points, 8-9
Northern Michigan 12 points, at Mankato, can finish with 12-18 points, 8-9

If Ferris and Northern tie, I believe Northern has the tiebreaker
If Bemidji and Lake tie, Lake would have the tiebreaker
Those I think I am sure on????

TIEBREAKERS FROM THE CCHA WEBSITE:

If two (2) or more teams are tied for the CCHA regular season championship, they shall be considered co-champions. Seeding for the CCHA Postseason Tournament if two (2) or more teams have accumulated the same number of points shall be determined according to the below procedure. Of note, 3 on 3 or shootout results will not be used to break ties in CCHA tournament seeding when 2 or more teams are tied.

1. When 2 or more teams are tied in the standings and they have played an equal number of home and away games between all tied teams, the seeding for the CCHA Tournament shall be determined by the team with the greatest number of head-to-head regulation wins between all tied teams. If 2 or more teams did not play a balanced schedule this criteria will not be used and the following criteria will be used:

2. If not determined by (1), the seeding for the CCHA Tournament shall be determined by the team with the greatest number of regulation wins.

3. If not determined by (1), or (2), the seeding for the CCHA Tournament shall be determined by the team with the best winning percentage in all league games.

4. If not determined by (1), (2), (3), the seeding for the CCHA Tournament shall be determined by total goals for and total goals against in all league games.

5. If not determined by (1), (2), (3), (4), the seeding for the CCHA Tournament shall be determined by comparison of the teams winning percentage tied in the standings with winning percentage against the remaining highest ranked CCHA teams until the tie is broken or all CCHA games have been considered.

6. If not determined by (1), (2), (3), (4), (5), the seeding for the CCHA Tournament shall be determined by a flip of the coin.

NOTE: In the case of ties among three (3) or more schools, the criteria above will be used in order, beginning with A), until a team (or teams) is (or are) separated from the other tied team (or teams). At that point, the procedures are re-started to break the “new” tie and determine recipient of the higher seed. In other words, when a three (3)-way tie becomes a two (2)-way tie, the two (2)-way tie is treated as a “new” tie and the process re-starts with the first criterion.

Who do you think will come out on top and why?

As much as I hate to say it, St. Thomas. Even though I am a Beaver fan, they just have not done it for me this year. I think St. Thomas will take enough points this weekend to come out on top.
I agree. I think the top 5 will be:
1) St. Thomas
2) MTU
3) MSU
4) Augustana
5) Bowling Green

And then they thumb their nose at us and move on to the NCHC.
BG folks are fine with the Tommies. I've never once heard anyone get worked up over their departure, it must be a MN thing. I wish they were staying, but hey...good luck in the Nachos (sorry, they rebranded...Nachonals).

We loathe Rico, but that's from when he was a raging a-hole with Miami which has nothing to do with St. Thomas.

Just for the record, I'm not fond of the new branding. Winning the conference tournament makes you the "National champions", but not the actual Natty champs? There's definitely gonna be some confusion with newer fans. Have at it, folks!

As far as the CCHA, I heard Lindenwood was going to try and join "in a couple years", but who knows.

Lindenwood isn’t getting in the CCHA any time soon. The UP teams don’t want to travel to St. Louis (it’s another flight or 15 hr on a bus with stops). I also thought I heard Bemidji doesn’t either though I defer on that one. In an interview this year Lucia reiterated the lack of desire on the part of league members to travel down there. Also, 8 teams is a good number. Would Maryville change that? I have my doubts.

Rico is still a First class jerk. ... Lindenwood won't get in any time soon imho, but who knows. maybe if they subsidize travel. and literally no one goes to their games. ... and BG played maybe their best game of the year last night, so did Bemidji.. way to go NMU. ! i thought they were very good considering.
