Wisconsin Hockey 25-26 Hastings Year 3 - Turning the Corner?

Just curious: Which injury specifically has led to Wisconsin looking like they don’t even belong on the ice with Michigan State, Ped State, Minnesota the last 3 weeks.
With 05-06? Yes, Elliott was basically the QB. With him they were unstoppable. Without him they were beatable.

Man…I’ve thought of that too. Those of us who grew up watching as middle schoolers, HS kids or college-age kids: Granato’s, Tuttle, Ranheim, CUJO, Zent, Fairchild, Shuchuck, Tancill, Schier, Carey, et al. The experience of watching UW hockey in those eras was second to none.
But we’re adults now in our prime earning years and time is a commodity we have less of because we’re busier…..and $? well, it should be spent (imo) on things that provide fun or value.
Badger hockey is providing neither fun nor value. Same with football. If either was actually competent, let alone kicking ass, I’d have no problem dropping a ton of $$ on merch and would attend more games vs watching on tv.
But…here we are. A different era. And McIntosh following in the footsteps of Barry “I’m not a hockey guy” Alvarez, isn’t going to save the program with good decisions.
So my $$ is spent on concerts now. Yes, I’m going to see Rush for an insane amount of $$ (far more than Metallica prices) because I damn well know they will deliver and it will be fun as hell. Providing memories to last the rest of my life.

We moved to Madison in 93. We got football tix right away and had them for 25+ years. When hockey moved to the KC, we had men's Friday and Saturday season tix for quite a while too - 10-15 years. Considered adding men's hoops at one point too.
Our son played hockey and lacrosse and once he got to high school, we were busy most weekend nights and were eating all of our unused hockey tickets. Same with a ton of football tickets due to fall baseball or other stuff on Saturdays.
That's why we dropped all of our tix but were kind of running on fumes by that point anyway in terms of interest and whether we thought we were getting our money's worth. Plus... after you've been to hundreds of games, it gets kind of samey.
All that said, now that our son is grown, we've never considered getting season tickets again. We routinely pass on Packers tickets and don't bother with the Bucks or Blackhawks due to the absolute crazy ticket prices. You could pay all that money and they could lose.
These days we do a few men's hockey games, a few women's games, a couple volleyball and a hoops and football game here or there. Even do a softball game on the rare occasion that the weather cooperates.
Still love Badger sports but mostly watch from the couch. And even when we go and they lose, it doesn't sting as bad as it would spending $500 on a Packer game for a loss.
Hell... even a Packer win isn't worth $500.

Concerts are almost undefeated. We go to 40-60 per year and I've seen hundreds in my 56 years.
We've even taken to doing trips to parts of the country we want to visit where we take in a concert or two of artists we love and then take a few extra days to explore the area.
That's where our money is best spent on entertainment these days.
Rush will likely be more than worth it. I only saw them once - at the Coliseum in 1994 and Primus opened. Was awesome as I was a big fan as a kid in the late 70s and early 80s.

Wow! 40-60 concerts per year is awesome!!
I go to maybe 10-20 per year mostly in smaller venues…I go to a lot of local band shows.
I did see Living Colour 2 years ago at summerfest and they ripped like they were still in their 20’s!!

I was at that Rush concert as well. lol. We’re going to Luke combs ands dirks Bentley at Lambeau this summer.
I'll admit I'm a newer fan and the badgers are my second team behind my alma mater (RPI) because I moved here for work. I don't think the sky is falling yet. It's been a horrible stretch no doubt, and they absolutely have to stop the cold streak. I don't think I'm out on Hastings or this team though; they're still in the tourney picture as of right now. I don't Hastings system stifles offense because Mankato would score like 4 goals per game under him. They definitely need to get to the inside more to start scoring again. I'm staying optimistic but this weekend is critical

Hastings has not lost the team. He led them to a fantastic start. All the players have plenty of tape showing they can play the way they need to in order to win. A horrible pk weekend shows they are lacking in the details to win right now. Pk success is all about the details. You simply can't screw up the details and expect to win. The ladies showed that Friday. 3 mistakes, 3 goals (non pk). The boys are in funk. The Rodents were until Friday. I even posted on this thread that I thought Minnesota was due for some success. This is a different than to last years team and they will come out of it.
Losing Hensler isn't going to help. That is a problem. Knox or Horbach are not Hensler. You can't lose two of your top five defenseman and not expect a drop off.
I am scratching my head on goaltending and that coach, but I'm going to let the season play out before I make any sort of judgments. But there thoughts percolating in the back of my mind about this.
I also have percolating thoughts about some of the ushl guys he's recruiting. They're not necessarily scoring machines at that level, so how can it to be expected they will score more in college than they were at a lower level?

They are 10-2-0 with Schulz in the lineup and 5-7-2 without him. With Schulz, they swept MSU and Minnesota and split against Michigan.
The team has given up 38 goals in the 10 games since the Saturday Notre Dame game. Those are horrendous numbers. We need our top defensive defenseman back so every other dman slides down to their more suited role.

That likely isn't happening. I've heard that he wouldn't likely be back until mid-March at the earliest (in the NCAA Playoffs). Right now I don't think they are going to make it, unless they turn it around quickly.

I know :/ We basically have zero defensemen that cover what he does and we are overloaded with right shot D as well - which won’t get better if Horbach plays there either.

I am fully confident of a sweep. I am taking my daughter to the Friday game, our first of 3 trips into the big city for hockey, the other 2 being the ladies' games. 6 hours of driving is a lot, but we love it.

I have 0 expectation of a sweep. Whatever the problem is with this team it began when Schulz went down with one caveat….you could see through 15-3-2 flashes where the goaltending was not frozen four material….
In a typical season one guy going down shouldn’t result in a team going off the rails but that’s in part what happened here. Then Zelenov goes down, Morrisey, Brink, Hensler. And btw, the coach speak crap about injuries really pisses me off. Just say done for a month or more or done for the season. Leave the hemming and hawing to politicians.
So…without Hensler and Schulz and with two sieve goalies, I think we’ve seen the ceiling on this team lowered dramatically. If I had to guess I’d say 2-2 at best over the next two weekends.

University or state policy or something that there's some limitations to what the coaches themselves can divulge. I agree its annoying, but probably fair to the athletes that their information isn't shared without their consent.
I will say, although unclear, the Hensler update didn't seem to suggest any super major injuries or a surgery needed, which I am very thankful for. I don't even care if he can't come back this season, I'm just hoping he doesn't have any crazy major injuries like an acl tear.

Hensler sounds like he will be out a long time. So assume him and Schulz are done for the year. Makes it tough to make the NCAA with 2 top D out. Zelenov will be back this week.
Note: save % is now 53 of 63 teams at .887. PK 56 of 63 teams. Disaster - as we were one of the top teams earlier in the year for both. 57th in penalties / game. Just can't have that.

Th PK and save % were very related last weekend. Basically stay out of the box and that fixes a hole lot.
