Colgate 2025-26

I watched most of the game last night and thought Canisius looked like a good team. BTW...they also beat Clarkson and SLU this year. We need to improve on alot of our game, Hopefully start tonight !

RainMan, I wondered on the drive home if the goal 16 seconds in wasn't a bad thing, as it may have given 'Gate a false sense of confidence.

TeacherBill, to be fair, this is not your father's Canisius team. They are 5-1 now with other wins over Clarkson, Saint Lawrence, Long Island and Army West Point. And the only one-goal game in those four wins was the Long Island win in OT.

Whatever coach Mike Harder and his assistants, and/or Daniel Panetta and his assistants, said last weekend after the Friday night trouncing by BU certainly was heard, loud and clear, by the rest of the team. Hopefully they listen intently before tonight's game, too, and perform accordingly. Go 'Gate!

It's definitely the former, RM. Nothing good happens when you don't shoot the puck. Canisius finished 12-23-2 last season, .351. Tackas may have been the star for the Raiders, but I will never be a fan. What I AM a fan of are the WIH away jerseys and the crisp appearance of the men's home jerseys with 'gate on the shoulder, which I was shocked to see. The ugly C will never grow on me.
The ugly C, the change of color from maroon to crimson, and the ugly uniforms will never grow on me TB!

Reid Dyck led Colgate onto the ice for tonight's pre-game warm-up.
Andrew Takacs and Jack Olson are also dressed for Colgate.
Chase Clark led Canisius out onto the ice for the second straight night.
It appears that a Boston Bruins scout was in the building last night and tonight.

Five minutes in and Canisius' Zacher scored. If you back up the highlight reel, you'll find that we gave the puck away in our own zone on that one.

Canisius penalty (hooking). Killed.
Colgate penalty (tripping). 12-5 'Gate SOG going in. Killed. 14-6 SOG coming out.

Colgate's energy level is 300% higher than last night. Beating them to the puck in the Canisius end. Taking shots. Blocking shots.

Colgate 15, Canisius 9, SOG after one.
Canisius 1, Colgate 0, score after one.

Tonight has already been a good night for me. Talking with "Red" pre-game, who then turned around and started booing the officials. he he he
And I visited with R. Braden Houston. We will get together at some point so I can learn about his playing days in South Africa.

Two minutes into the second and a beautiful team effort by Colgate... Tyson Doucette from Daniel Panetta.

Colgate penalty (tripping). Canisius scored a PPG instantly.
Canisius penalty (hooking). Killed.
Colgate penalty (holding). Canisius penalty (embellishment). Both killed.
Canisius penalty (tripping) with 96 seconds left in the period. PPG by Colgate's Isiah Norlin.

Canisius penalty (hooking). Colgate penalty (embellishment).
.5 seconds to go in the period and Canisius' Zacher scored.

We may very well lose this game, but it won't be due to a lack of effort (like last night).

Colgate 33, Canisius 16, SOG after two.
Canisius 3, Colgate 2, score after two.

1:36 remaining on the matching penalties.
Colgate scores a wrap-around goal... Jake Schneider from Daniel Panetta.

Another Colgate penalty (interference). One minute in and a Canisius penalty (interference).
Colgate penalty killed. Canisius penalty killed. Colgate's Jack Brandt scored an even-strength goal from Michael Neumeier and Max Nagel.
FINALLY... the lead in the game. Ten minutes left in regulation. 38-17 'Gate SOG. Will we go into a defensive shell?

Another wrap-around goal... this time by Max Nagel from Jack Brandt and Ryan Sullivan.

On at least three occasions tonight, we've seen Colgate perform a shooting gallery. Shot after shot after shot.

Canisius pulled their goalie with two minutes left.

Colgate 41, Canisius 18, SOG final.
Colgate 5, Canisius 3, score final.

IF a Boston Bruins scout was in the building my guess is that one of his points of focus would be on Michael Neumeier...suggestion to two of our forwards (nameless): 1) try and stay out of the penalty box for one night, and 2) try not to stick handle through everyone...

Last night: 3rd period lead turned regulation loss.
Tonight: 3rd period deficit turned regulation win.

We are apparently still figuring out our team identity for this season. Canisius is 5-2 so far (including our split with them), so this could turn into a quality win for us if they continue to play well.

Just a much-needed win tonight.
And a good win for Reid Dyck.
Of course, Canisius accomplished their weekend goal... a split on the road.
I also had a good visit with John McGraw tonight, who continues to set the gold standard for fairness and objectivity in college hockey announcing.
Interestingly, Maine had a tie and a loss at Quinnipiac this weekend, which is similar to our loss and a tie at Boston University last weekend.
Michigan State swept BU in Boston. And RIT took Clarkson down tonight. All very interesting.

Giving up a goal with less than a second to go in a period usually deflates a team. But we showed some character in the 3rd period tonight. Nice comeback.

Coach Harder's rough comments after Friday set the appropriate tone...a total turnaround that gives me hope for a split at Maine...certainly a jekyl and hyde weekend...
