Tough, physical game tonight and it’s tied 2-2. With 44.4 seconds remaining in regulation, BU scored the game-winner. 6,000 people went wild and what a deflated feeling for ‘Gate fans. All that hard work tonight for naught. But, wait, Coach Mike Harder challenges for an offsides. The review takes forever, but ‘No Goal!’ Holy cow! OT was interesting when BU took a penalty. But they held us off. And Andrew Takacs made some great saves, too, in regulation and in OT.

Not only did Andrew Takacs play well, but, tonight, the whole team played well, never gave up, and was not intimidated by BU. Cole Hutson and one of their assistant coaches both said, ‘Tonight, Colgate wanted it more’ in Jumbotron interviews. I think they were right.

After seeing Boston University in-person, and like Magoo said, I don’t know how you can be disappointed with a loss and a tie this weekend at Agganis Arena. I am not. And, as GreenCoat wanted, we definitely showed improvement from last night to tonight.

Kudos to Katie Saeger for coordinating a great pre-game reception tonight at the Yard House near Fenway Park. I had a fun conversation with Daniel Panetta’s mother about her hockey sons.

P.S. - I apologize in advance if I sound like a broken record this season, but, after one exhibition game and two non-conference games… “stay out of the freakin’ penalty box!” Usually we take a silly ‘too many men on the ice’ penalty once a game. Tonight we felt obligated to take two of ‘em. Sheesh!!

Great tie, did feel like a win. BU is like a AHL team, don't they have something like sixteen NHL draft picks ?

This is a fun team to watch as they take on Coach Harder's personality. Gritty, no excuses, next man up philosophy. They're starting to assume they're in every game, hope it lasts. Q just buried ND (who may stink this year for all I know) so ECAC definitely has talent. Keep it rolling.

Oldtimer, to your point, every time Antonio Fernandez scores, I think, ‘well, there is Mike Harder’s strategy in motion.’

As for the Icebreaker Tournament, my friend Dartmouth Doug was there and he said that Notre Dame did not look good at all. And, to be fair, the reason Quinnipiac even played Notre Dame in the consolation game was that QU lost the tourney opener to Alaska (who then could not keep out of the penalty box in the title tilt against Arizona State).

Nice to be back on here seeing some familiar usernames. Rooting for a good season. Let's go 'gate!

I watched Friday's game on ESPN+ and Saturday's game in person. Glad I attended the more competitive game.

The bad from Saturday:

• both of BU's goals came off of defensive zone turnovers
• twice we took a too many men penalty
• couldn't convert an OT power play

The good from Saturday:

• Mike Harder with the challenge to overturn a BU go-ahead goal. Turned a potential regulation loss into a tie.
• We killed off all of BU's power play opportunities.

We played a competitive game from start to finish on Saturday. It has me hopeful for this season and year 3 of Harder hockey.

Shabby, I don't keep track of NHL draft picks (and hate when PPV college hockey announcers spend all their time talking about the NHL), but...
I count 19 for BU on this season's team and just 1 for Colgate...
'Gate goalie Reid Dyck drafted by the Boston Bruins, who just happened to get his first collegiate start on Friday in Boston.

What did you think of Dyck, Takacs had a decent game !
Any frosh stand out to you ?

Shabby, I believe Reid Dyck is a keeper.
He faced 35 shots and made 30 saves.
But, with BU, most shots are high-quality shots.
And Andrew Takacs looked strong again.
He also faced 35 shots and he made 33 saves.
Goal-tending was not our problem this past weekend.

As for first-year players, I am still learning their names. he he he. But obviously Tyson Doucette, previously with the Sarnia (Ont.) Sting of the OHL, got on the scoreboard on Friday. And Easton Wainwright, also previously with the Sarnia Sting, was 12 for 21 overall in faceoffs won on the weekend.

Finally, Canisius defeated Army West Point tonight, 3-1. Grant Porter and Walter Zacher will be two Golden Griffins to watch this weekend.

Iowa, will look for you Saturday... missing Friday, golf thing. Shabs, sorry I've missed you at football but I think both of our traditional main teams are looking up!

There are 63 NCAA D-1 men's ice hockey teams this season:
Atlantic Hockey America (10), Big Ten (7), CCHA (9), ECAC (12), Hockey East (11), NCHC (9), and Independent (5).
Apparently 56 have played at least one game so far.

Colgate is 53rd of 56 in Faceoff Win Percentage (.440%). Canisius is 54th (.437%).
Colgate is 39th of 56 in Penalty Killing Percentage (.750%). Canisius is 28th (.818%).
Colgate is 42nd of 56 in Power Play Percentage (.111%). Canisius is 6th (.333%).
Colgate is 41st of 56 in Scoring Defense (Goals Against Average) 4.00 per game. Canisius is 21st (2.40 per game).
Colgate is 41st of 56 in Scoring Offense (Goals For Average) 2.00 per game. Canisius is 32nd (2.80 per game).
Colgate is 29th of 56 in Team Penalty Minutes (Average) 9.00 per game. Canisius is 53rd (5.20 per game).

The good news is... there is room for improvement for Mike Harder's team.

Sigh.

Losing to Canisius is bad.
Losing to Canisius at home is worse.
Getting completely outplayed by Canisius is unacceptable.

Not Harder hockey? Lack of consistency. Canisius. Ugh.

Sometimes in hockey, as in life, you gets whats you pays for.
Tonight was just such a night as we paid dearly for poor play.

Last Friday night, we lost 6-2 to a team that was clearly more talented.
Tonight, we lost 4-2 to a team that just worked harder and smarter than we did.
Getting beat to the puck, missing passes, and turning the puck over were never strategies that were going to win us this game.

And, again, goaltending wasn't our problem tonight. In fact, Andrew Takacs was the reason it was basically just a 3-2 game in favor of Canisius.
Unfortunately, I didn't see a replay of the Canisius goal 'from a tough angle,' but it may have hit Takacs on the backside and gone in. I am not sure.

Canisius took more faceoffs and blocked more shots. We need to turn those stats around tomorrow. "And SOTFPB!!"

Scoring to take a 1-0 lead 16 seconds into the game only to lose in regulation. Either we are currently a bad team or Canisius is a good team.

It's definitely the former, RM. Nothing good happens when you don't shoot the puck. Canisius finished 12-23-2 last season, .351. Tackas may have been the star for the Raiders, but I will never be a fan. What I AM a fan of are the WIH away jerseys and the crisp appearance of the men's home jerseys with 'gate on the shoulder, which I was shocked to see. The ugly C will never grow on me.
