Good Evening Lodge! FOr some reason this thread doesn't show up in my notifications. Hope all is OK wT saw on FB enough to think YIKES!!
Been having a lovely time since I last posted. Mother of Pearl.
The cottage in Maine now has new counters, a new stove plug, a new stove, new sink courtesy of last year's fire. Working on all the other stuff. Still dealing with the insurance guy.
A new fridge because the icemaker gasket blew out (after 24 yrs what did it owe us?).
And some new wires. We are alive by the grace of God. It was really scary.

Short version- Cottagewas not grounded. The ground corroded away because it was put thru cement (not allowed now). Rodents ate thru the covering of 6 wires which were arcing and left scorch marks on the joists while using the cable line as a ground. 2 visits from the cable guys, another 2 from the power co for them to decide it was in the house and tell us we were in big trouble. The electrician told us we were lucky we didn't burn down. Things are rewired until they can redo the service.

For variety the rails on the deck were rotting, the stairs going to the dock collapsed and the electrician said we needed to run a dehumidifier in the cellar because the condensation was insane and we were at risk for the joists getting rot. And the house is overdue to be stained so lots of green where there shouldn't be any . We have family members capable of dealing with this stuff but they have better things to do. They want to use the cottage but not do anything to help.

Found someone to do all of that stuff for reasonable price but we decided to not open the cottage until stuff is all done. They are pi55ed. "So people might not be able to utilize the cottage this summer? That sucks" Yup. And so does having to drive back and forth for >1000 miles total in less than 2 months to deal with stuff while you second guess why it is taking so long. I have to admit a little bit of Schadenfreude. They have been snots to me because they think I have no right to say what they can and can't do with the place my aunt owns. And now, without me being a snot, karma.

Meanwhile mr les father's house needs to be cleaned out and sold. auntie les is struggling big time. bro les has somehow taken over as personal rep for mumles insurance co so the insurance co has stopped communicating with me. The list of life events is stupid.

Greetings Lodge peeps. Found out this morning someone tried to use my credit card this morning. Got a text message from Capital One, thought the text was a scam so I called them. It wasn’t. Thankfully it was just an $80 charge and it was declined. But I had to cancel the card and now I won’t get a new one till next week.

good morning Lodge. back at the office today. People seem surprised to see me. Honestly sitting at home for 2 weeks was starting to wear on me. Plus there is a ton of stuff that needs to be done here and I know that no one is gonna cover, so it'd just be more overwhelming when i return

les, the cottage stuff sounds like a nightmare. Glad it didn't burn down, glad that it will be fixed.

NaSK's tv started smoking the other day. His reaction "this year sucks, I'm done with it". It's been a rough few weeks.

Scarlet, glad your bank found the fraud.

Hey wT - glad to hear you’re on the mend.

I was down the Cape over the weekend. I had today off, too. I left mid morning or so to get home. Even though it was a day off, I scheduled a call I needed to happen so I wanted to be home by 2:30. Got home at 1:15, took a call at 1:30, went through my emails, turns out the guy with whom I had the call with at 2:30 emailed to say he was really sick so I rescheduled the call and was annoyed as I could have spent the day at the beach. Instead I went food shopping and am now doing laundry. It’s too hot to sit by the pool. Gonna get hotter this week, too.
