2025 SUNYAC...addition and subtractions and of course Tomfoolery..

Yeah why not? Doubt the team will be too disappointed if two important players turn out not to be leaving

There are many coaches who tell players once they enter the portal, they are done with the team. And will never take them back no matter what.

Having said that, I have no idea which side of the fence Mark Taylor is on that philosophy.
yes its like the stock market, it does not like uncertainty, again would imagine what the coaches policy is will dictate what happens....either way looks like they will be ok as far as bart is concerned

As far as the two Hobart portal entries, it will likely have an impact on the remaining team members as far as their relationship with these guys. Mark Taylor has to do what's best for the team and that means he is already recruiting the best players possible, and not necessarily "replacements". Duclair is unique as an incredibly talented, but undersized , brother of a top NFL professional(Anthony Duclair). He certainly wants to see what his ceiling is, but his size and shot selection/accuracy might be an issue. His speed and endurance are D1. Bauer Morrissey is capable of playing D1 on defense and would be missed, but Taylor has a great system to integrate additions. Last year ,Hobart lost two players to D1 , one was the team Captain who graduated from Hobart and played successfully for Bentley. Although he had a year of eligibility left, no one blamed him for seeking an MBA at Bentley. He came back for the Championship at Utica. We also lost our leading scorer to Brown, but he had a hard time getting significant ice time, we'll see how he does next year. I think Taylor has wished them luck but wouldn't close the door on them coming back but that depends on their stature/chemistry with teammates , not just Taylor.

Incoming freshmen Tommy McDonough D/NH Mountain Kings (NAHL) and Laurent Trepanier F/Maine Nordiques (NAHL) will more than make up for the two portal departures. Both are impact players and will fit in right away.

SUNYAC announced 3 new full members alfred state cobleskill and Delhi. While they dont have hockey teams or any plans for them in the near future they made this move for a reason. Maybe some more schools (including hockey schools) are leaving? Maybe a new emphasis on sports with the smaller schools to keep enrollment stable that would include adding hockey?

After Brockport and Geneseo left, New Paltz left (effective next school year). So, they lost three and then gained five (Morrisville and Canton this past year) full time members.

Quite frankly, those five schools are going to get crushed in most sports. As we saw with Canton and especially Morrisville. They are small schools which still focus heavily on two-year degree programs rather than four-year degrees.

Very true it would take a long term investment to get those schools up to snuff compared to the 4 year schools. Probably at least a decade. With the enrollment crisis impeding for next year, it'll be interesting to see what schools survive and which don't and how all the students shift. Small northeast liberal arts schools are the most likely to get the hardest whereas state schools are probably the safest (I know Penn State had to close like 8 of their satellite campuses but 13/18 satellites have like 500 kids most suny schools I'm fairly certain are double to triple that at the minium even for the jucos

Didnt the SUNYAC also gain Hobart William Smith and Skidmore...??? or is that just for hockey??? First I heard about NP,that is for next yr?? damn it was the nearest YAC volleyball school to me that Cortland will play

Just for hockey.

We're talking full time members in this current conversation.

There are some SUNY schools which are in economic trouble. From what I hear, Albany is putting most of their money lately into the Universities, much to the chagrin of the colleges. And some are being told to get out of the red or else.

There have been rumors for a long time that Potsdam and Canton will merge. And it's no secret that University of Buffalo has made offers to buy Fredonia and turn it into a UB satellite campus.

Just Hockey. They are both in the D3 Liberty League and the league doesn't have enough D3 hockey members since Union, RIT, RPI and Clarkson are all D1 hockey programs. Hobart has no interest in moving up to D1 given the cost of building their own rink and the success they've enjoyed in D3 is cool since we are lucky enough to have Coach Taylor who recruits great young men. BTW, Hobart did make a pitch to host the 2025 Championship that included a couple of mobile locker rooms, mobile toilets and many food trucks that could be fit directly outside The Cooler and rent the nearby parking lot from Geneva....but it didn't get approved.

UB could "buy" Fredonia???
It is a funny choice of words. I suspect it would be more like take over the debt. In some ways, the way I understand it, each school is it's own business entity. The State provides money to each school, but the school still has to make a proft, especially in the areas of dorms and food services. The State isn't going to bail a school out if they run into severe financial troubles. But another school can.

Fredonia has a $16.8 million budget deficit. Buffalo State is similar. https://www.wkbw.com/news/eye-on-education/two-suny-campuses-in-wny-facing-looming-deficits

That article is also 3 years old. SUNY has added hundreds of millions of dollars since then and oz has reported their deficit is down to 1.9M as of last October from whatever the original number was. While IDK how fredonias/Potsdam situations are but the state has clearly put a lot of money into this and are seemingly to do everything they possibly can B4 schools get merged/bought out

My Guess is that they are going to see how the 2 underclassmen play and possibly bring in a D1 transfer next year since this is Milberg's last year. As for Raymond Perrault I don't have an account with Neutral Zone anymore but I can see if they think a player has a little extra and they show him as speed, Hockey IQ and Toughness so my guess is he can skate and hit.

That makes sense, coach is pretty damn good at this so gotta go with his picks for sure....Thanks for the legwork dmac...

glad to see most of the conference pivoting to the NAHL and NCDC for their recruits cause it really seems the best talent nowadays is going to those leagues. Hopefully the yac can get back to being a multi bid league (thank god we only have to deal with beaver and his 0.956 career save % for one year)
