The States : red states in a race to the bottom

Well, you did say “lots of people” in your post, so I think you covered your bases nicely.
Sarcasm aside, my original response was to Miss T. I just didn’t quote her like I should have. I won’t speak for her, but for me, everyone fucking up is so much more disappointing.
I'm disappointed in everyone too, but not surprised. I was using Dearborn as an example. Your governor is indeed better than mine.

Right now, I'm thinking of how I can leave Michigan and head elsewhere.

Michigan's president stepped down weeks ago and announced he would be the next president at Florida. There was some backlash down in Florida about the move but Ono tried to turn the tide by saying he no longer supported DEI programs. He got through unanimously on the board of trustee vote, but lost the board of governors vote 10-6, in part because he could not deflect all their MAGA questions about his non-MAGA past.

Now he's out of a job, probably ruined his future at regular schools for trying to throw away his past, and will never be welcomed at MAGA universities because of his past.

Piggybacking on that:

Mallory McMorrow sent me an email this morning begging me for money. Of course, her internal polling indicates she's only 4 points behind Stevens and only 5 ahead of El Sayed. 37% remain undecided, while former MI House Speaker Joe Tate, who just entered the Dem primary race for Peters' seat a couple of weeks ago, barely registers above the floor.

My favorite line though, is this one:

Among voters who can identify both Haley Stevens and myself, I lead by a staggering twenty-three points.

To a degree, she's right to imply that no one really likes Haley Stevens all that much, except for AIPAC and rich fucks from Birmingham and West Bloomfield who keep funding/electing her. But when you're trying to position yourself as an alternative, it might be a good idea to get your policy differences out there. Right now, most people look at the two of them and don't see much of a difference.

If the primary were held today, El Sayed would get my vote. Unfortunately, it'd be futile because not enough white people in Michigan are going to vote for a guy with a Middle Eastern name, even on the Dem ballot in a closed primary. Suburban Detroit and Grand Rapids women are likely going to end up putting one of the two ladies over the finish line, but at least with McMorrow I think there's a shred of hope that she'll fight for some progressive causes. Stevens will just keep playing centrist "Pick Me" enabler.

Save the boundary waters just provided this update.

Hovey is proud

BREAKING: In a bizarre series of events late Wednesday, Agriculture Secretary Rollins and Interior Secretary Burgum tweeted that they will be overturning the Superior National Forest mineral withdrawal that protects the beloved Boundary Waters—our nation’s most visited wilderness area. This move would open more than 225,000 acres to mining.

The Secretaries justified their decision based on the shocking claim that they have received extensive public input on the matter—but no public comment period has been held since the decision was finalized in 2023. 675,000 comments were received prior to the decision being finalized, 98% of which supported the mining ban.

I mean the clown was the Governor of NoDak being stupid and wanting to screw everything up is kind of perfect for him. Someone should give him some cookies and send him back to the Grand Shitties.

That account isn't his...I am not sure why that poster took it down.

Mamdani still has it on his page:

He is definitely not being handled because he is coming out firing the last few weeks.

New Yorkers I follow have been waiting for something like this to happen. Great idea in the ranked choice primary.

Okay good. I was making an assumption because I had seen some lefties getting irritated with him. After more digging it was very very far lefties being irritated about his message after the DC attack on the Israeli embassy staffers. Because you know, calling out murder as bad is… bad?

Anyway again, I am glad.

Some people just want to find a reason to hate everyone ;)
