  • UML 2019/2020: Underclassmen Reign

Well, with the season starting this weekend, time to start this thread up ...

28 man roster. 12 sophs, 9 freshmen. Young team (in regards to college experience anyway).

Scanlon wrote a piece in the Sentinel and Enterprise.

One key note from that article, Stefanson is out with an injury to start the season.

    Go Lowell!

Monty, thanks for setting up the new thread.

    A new goal horn.

This summer the hockey program installed a new goal horn, to be played after every River Hawks goal. Warning: It is loud! It is very similar to a fog horn, located in the back end zone and will play for 5 seconds after each goal. Just to give you a heads up, we have attached a video.

I'm excited for the season to start. I do think Lowell is probably going to finish in the 4-6th range, but I am optimistic they can make the NCAA tournament with a good OOC record.

Free video feed for both games this weekend.

In addition, the league announced a new broadcast deal, which will find Hockey East games back on NESN and streaming through CBS Sports Online. The partnership kicks off with an early-season schedule that includes games provided for free on CBS SportsLive, by clicking here.

It was weird not having an exhibition game. First season 2005/2006 that Lowell hasn't opened with a Canadian college in an exhibition.

Started off fast, then they seemed to slow down in the 1st. Like the looks of Brown and Lee. I think I lost consciousness in the 2nd during the Parade of Whistles. I'm going to chock it up to the start of the season for both Lowell and the refs, but that was really brutal. The PK got some work in, although I'm not sure of what quality. UAH had the worst 5x3 I've ever had the misfortune to witness; they literally passed it around the horn for 50 seconds and never took a shot (at least it seemed that way).

Once the boys got to skate 5x5 in the 3rd you could see UAH was just playing with a weaker hand. Strong game by Wall, he didn't have a chance on that 2 on 1 at the end of the 2nd.

Hoping to see more of the same tomorrow before they head up to Thunderdome next weekend. Talk about opening your season with polar opposites: home vs UAH and then on the road to the two time reigning, defending National Champions.

UAH had 7 power plays totaling 11:47. They had a total of 2 shots on net and allowed Lowell to score a shorthanded goal.

Lowell also won 43 out of 58 faceoffs. Condotta was 10-1, O'Neill 10-2, Berglund 9-4, and Hausinger 4-0.

Love seeing three freshmen open their goal scoring accounts. A nice confidence boost for all of them.

I mean it was one game and I really don't want to use Huntsville as a measuring stick

But this team and the pairings Norm went with seem to gel pretty well during 5 on 5 time. Never really felt outside of the 5 on 3 PK that they were at a disadvantage.

Would like to see Norm roll Lucas and Andre at the same time in the near future.

Loved seeing Matt Brown get right in front of the net during the PP you can tell there is something special there with him. That pass to set up Kaiser was right on the money. Lee had the nice dish as well for the 5th goal. I think we can inch up on the ceiling on these two a tad. But like I said it's Huntsville.
