Dump Term 2, Part 2: "A third term would be a big shattering."

Yeah - to be fairly assessed, that original statement should have been "That dumbfuck is going to kill millions of dumbfucks."

Gun control 2 : happy 25th anniversary of Columbine

Getting rid of guns only prevents 10% of mass shootings? Are the other 90% caused by people “shooting” blow-darts at crowds? How have I missed this blow-dart epidemic????

Gun control 2 : happy 25th anniversary of Columbine

The same as you do for every single other person: make sure they can't get guns. I do not understand why this is so hard to comprehend.

Gun control 2 : happy 25th anniversary of Columbine

Oh looky who showed up when there's one data point out of a million that supports his ridiculous narrative. I can solve your so-called conundrum of what to do with "them," though: absolutely nothing. You don't do anything with them. What you do is BAN THE FUCKING GUNS, and then it doesn't...

Wait - are we talking about Cracker Barrel, or Epstein’s island?

Elon Musk the 21st century Edison??

Perfect. Still a billion times more hospitable than freaking Mars.

Science: "Science is organized knowledge. Wisdom is organized life."

Maybe...but just more of a materials science problem to make enough of the stuff to even experiment with. One of our boys (Tim Fisher '91, PhD '98) is a leader in this field, and he has publications on graphene going back at least until 2011. I worked with him briefly when he was at Purdue and...

Elon Musk the 21st century Edison??

Ah - I thought we were talking about a scenario where we were claiming to save humanity in case something happened to earth, and you just wanted to select the worthy to go. What you actually want is just an enclave for humans with a moat. Save yourself a few hundred trillion dollars and buy...

Elon Musk the 21st century Edison??

You put far too much faith in genetics, or rather heritability. Plenty of genius level enlightened humans have kids who are full-on orcs. Handpick whatever 1000 humans you wish to found your colony, and by the third generation it will look like a cross section of America.

Business, Economics, and Taxes: Eat Cereal for Dinner

Surely this is just as illegal as “pump and dump” right? “Droop and swoop?”

Elon Musk the 21st century Edison??

You guys are trying to have it both ways: “We need to be able to colonize other worlds to save humanity!” Um, yeah, but that’s impossible within our current understanding of physics and economics. “That’s okay, we’ll just do small things instead” Then how exactly does that save humanity...

Science: "Science is organized knowledge. Wisdom is organized life."

Ok, this was published in 1985, so I assume some of you have seen this, but crossed my path for the first time today: The first four sentences of "States of Matter," a textbook on statistical mechanics, by David Goldstein: "Ludwig Boltzmann, who spent much of his life studying statistical...

The States : red states in a race to the bottom

Made me laugh, as an alum of a 60-player high school orchestra with 9 double-basses..... (and the applied chemistry lesson was very cool - thank you!)
