Quite simply, they don't have the talent they once enjoyed. That is not to knock the girls currently playing, but there has been a noticeable talent drain in recent years. They lost three quality players to transfer who would have played a large role this year. Graduation has siphoned another chunk of talent. There have been stories of negative recruiting directed towards UNH, and both the men and women's teams have had issues with admissions on some recruits.
That said, from what some have said, it sounds like the next two recruiting classes are quality and should help get the Cats back on track. Coach Wood was brought in to help recruit, as Coach Hamlin moved on to head the new Boston franchise of the CWHL.
