Well, the Hockey Gods are back from vacation I guess. This time it was Providence that challenged an offsides after ASU scored a goal. Thankfully that challenge was upheld so the score stayed at 0-0 at that point. Some very nice plays by the two PC scorers, Engelbert forces a turnover and makes an excellent...Last edited by NEW Friar; 11-27-2023, 01:03 PM.

This is getting old fast. Talk about statistical over correcting. This was the 3rd straight game that PC has lost after leading going into the 3rd period. Until this string of lost 2nd period leads PC had only done that 7 times since the beginning of coach Leaman's tenure. That is 7 times in 12 years...Last edited by NEW Friar; 11-25-2023, 02:39 PM.

Another similar game and loss. We were so close to getting that 2nd goal in the third, needed one of those bounces then, that would likely have been the W for us. An example of reverting to the statistical mean after perhaps too great of a start. Their win % now is 69.2 which is still above the team...

Back to 2023 and an unusual loss after being ahead after 2 periods. Expected the game would go to the extra period but U. Mass came back and scored with a 4-1 breakaway with under a minute to go. Hope we can right the ship in Amherst Saturday, it’s a long season and you can’t win them all....

Also found this clip of the 2016 Hockey East Championship semi-final in the PC vs UML game. The final play is at the end of the highlights. The UML player moved his skate sideways to create the angle for the tip in, he wasn't trying to play the puck with his stick at all. I think they ruled that this...Last edited by NEW Friar; 11-16-2023, 03:47 PM.

I found this clip of the winning goal online. Not a rules expert but it looks to me like the UMD player was in the crease and also pushed Ellis aside as he reached around to tap the puck into the net so that it didn't roll outside of the net on the left side. I assume this is where my thought that the...Last edited by NEW Friar; 11-16-2023, 03:38 PM.

I thought so too. I think several of the retuning seniors could have turned pro but came back instead hoping to repeat as National Champs. I believe 4 or 5 of players on that team are playing in the NHL this year. I heard that two players had the flu and tried to play in that Worcester NCAA game anyway,...Last edited by NEW Friar; 11-16-2023, 07:18 AM.

Wish I could remember the details, it could have been a non-call. Very disappointed that the season was over, especially after PC lost a triple OT game vs U. Mass Lowell in the HE tournament that year after the refs upheld the winning goal even though it looked clear to me that the goal was kicked in....

Thanks 73PCFriar, I fixed my post. I conflated the tournament OT format with the regular season format as far as the length of the OT. Not sure why I did that, perhaps it was because I had read that PC’s great start this year is the best since the 2015-2016 season when they started 12-0-3. That...Last edited by NEW Friar; 11-14-2023, 03:03 PM.

Been thinking about the reason for the increase in tie games and the impact of the change in how points are awarded. The new protocol changes the way we need to evaluate this. Now if a game is tied in regulation time you have a 5 minute 3X3 OT period. If nobody scores in that 5 minute OT period the...Last edited by NEW Friar; 11-13-2023, 05:56 PM.

Congratulations to coach Leaman, winningest coach in PC history and accomplished in far less time!
Great start to the season continues, currently in 1st place in HEA. Will not be easier from here on out, but the team and coaches seem to have very good chemistry. Fun to watch.

Nice OT win for the Friars. A tremendous 1st period zone time advantage but the puck just would not go in, (credit to the Notheastern goalie and the posts). Odd penalty after Duran’s goal in the last minute of the 1st period. If the only thing the ref across the ice saw was Yoder pointing at the...Last edited by NEW Friar; 11-11-2023, 09:54 AM.

5 points out of 6 against a ranked team in a home and away series is pretty darn good. Great puck luck on 1st goal as rebound on Richard’s shot bounced off the skate of a UNH defender back into the net. PC played with grit and determination the whole game and the hard work paid off. Defensive...Last edited by NEW Friar; 11-05-2023, 10:18 AM.
