Guessing the money involved - if it was indeed money - was probably relatively modest. Umile also used to do an advert for a haberdasher in downtown Manch, where I had it on good sources that he was just getting free merch for as long as the ad would run on local TV (WMUR), and I'm kinda doubting the...

If Walshy and Umile had a thing, I don't think they would have done the infamous Tri State Dodge (Somersworth NH) commercial together at the turn of the century. I haven't seen that thing in probably 25 years now, always hoped someone taped it? Two used car salesmen both posing as head hockey coaches,...

Sorry, fishy, I'm not hiding in the corner or anything. Remember, I predicted you guys for Top Four in HEA (and UNH for last place). So, I've probably undersold both programs to this point. Nothing but admiration for what Coach Barr brings to his programs, and sincerely hoping his corpulent second-in-command...

That was gonna be the team to take the big-game stank off Coach Umile ... instead it pretty much baked it in, and the first guy on your list was not exactly the transcendent Vanek or Eichel-type character he needed to be to lead that team through the postseason, setting the tone for his underwhelming...

Totally agree ... but it'll be some time before there's another "big game" on the schedule, so the boys and their coaches will have a fair amount of time to deal with the result, come to terms with what was lacking, what adjustments need to be made etc., and then put that stuff into play....

I'm not sure I said that it was only a matter of working harder although that is part of the package IMO. It also involves working differently, and taking different approaches not only to recruiting, but also with player development, communications and motivation. I think the greatest coaches have an...Last edited by Chuck Murray; 12-01-2023, 01:49 PM.

Enjoying the discussion on "what's different?" and I guess short of being at all the practices, and interacting with the players and staff regularly, it's tough to put a definitive finger on the pulse of things. I'm only slightly surprised that no one has guessed "MS7 sold his soul to...

Once upon a time, Bob was UNH's version of Grant Standbrook. If Standbrook ever did TV color work, I'm sure his biases would eventually seep through as well. If you're emotionally invested, that's a tough spigot to shut off.
Ironically, the last times I've seen Bob were at a few professional...

Every once in a while, the UMaine-iacs need to hear from someone outside the bubble with an objective take on an issue.
As always, I'm just here to help. Youze guys are still my second favorite program, after all ......

We can giggle and wink about the educational load to be taken on by a star recruit hockey player, but when he's coming from a totally different culture to one that will likely define at least the early stages of a burgeoning professional career, having a few weeks/months off from hockey to adapt to...

Now onto the slightly UNH-related topic of Tommy DeVito, the latest paisan who is apparently the rage of The New Joisey Meadowlands after a pair of wins as the 3rd string QB of the (not-so-)Fabulous Football Giants. We've had some fun on here over the years about the paisan trends emanating from Main...This is a kid who is wholly aware of his opportunity to be "capo di tutti capi" if only for a brief interlude ...Last edited by Chuck Murray; 11-27-2023, 02:15 AM.

Yup, the Soccer 'Cats did a very UNH thing tonight, ironically not a million miles removed from their 2010 Hockey 'Cats predecessors against RIT, who came up short when the door seemed to be wide open with an unexpected path towards the Final Four beckoning in their direction. And it was down to a single...

FWIW our cross-border rivals UVM lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at West Virginia this evening in the Round of 16. UVM fell behind early, but equalized later in the first half, and while the hosts would go ahead 2-1 at 81 minutes on a header from a corner kick, they also had to make a goal line clearance of...
