  • Troy to Hamden isn't much different than Princeton to Hamden....

  • The scary path for me involves the staff. Aren't they supposed to be coming off furlough in a few weeks? If it turns out that we aren't playing this year, what happens to them?...

  • We noticed. That's why I replied to AspyDad with hope that our one D1 sport with the widest support among students and alums would be treated differently. I expect most big $$$ D1 schools to try and come up with a path to fall sports although success is not guaranteed. Depending on how that is going...

Wow! Have we had an AE since Joe Juneau graduated? it's interesting that our women's team still has an assortment of non-Lally majors. The men's team on the other hand......................

  • Valid point. However, the fact that they had a separate question about M&W hockey and noted the D1 distinction gives me some hope that they may not be under the same global restrictions. I feel badly for all of the teams and I have attended contests for many as both a student and alum, but I must...

  • Given our earlier announcement do you think this has any impact on us? Frankly, Shirley doesn't seem the type to revisit things - at least not to revisit with the intent to possibly loosen the reigns. She seems unidirectional toward stricter controls. Perhaps it might it incent her, however, to keep...

  • Thank you. I thought I'd seen exceptions to the "no 'C' for goalies" tradition in college hockey. Selander not coming to mind tells me my wife is right about my aging memory.

However, I still suspect our captain and alternates will come from Jerry, Ferner and Linden. Selander...

  • I assume you are asking about our grandfathered status. Although you can never tell with the NCAA, I fairly confident they'd waive our participation requirement if the decision was due to the pandemic. Due to the limited number of schools competing at D1 I think they have an incentive to encourage schools...

  • Here's the campus plan. No fall sports. Winter and spring TBD.

  • At most levels of hockey goalies cannot wear the 'C' or 'A'. However, I'm not sure the NCAA has such a limitation. It would also be surprising to have a new guy, Sellar, be a captain, but it makes sense that he'd be in the leadership group since he will be one of the most experienced guys on the team....

  • That should give us a pretty good clue regarding next season's captains.

Neil Hernberg and Terry Butryn had to be in the same class because they were on-ice twins....

It happens, but the solution is for fans to let the offender know that it's not acceptable. Bruce Coles, a black man from Montreal, was an excellent forward for RPI in the late '80s and early '90s. He went on to play for the Canadian National Team and many seasons in the AHL. At Harvard, I was sitting...

Fine. The women's team lost 12-0 at the Coliseum before an announced crowd of 83 (roughly 1/3 of what they drew the night before in Syosset) for an early season date between Islanders games so they didn't have to pay to convert the now bankrupt arena. If they want to lose 12-0 with their first year...

You are comparing apples and oranges. There's relatively little cost to hosting a college basketball game, particularly one using the Nets floor as LIU and St. Peter's did. In fact, the same floor was used for a Net's game the night before and a high school hoops festival the next day. It's something...

Perhaps, but Barclay's management considered the Islanders an annoyance, much less a college team. The building was designed without any consideration for hockey and then they jury-rigged an ice arrangement for the Islanders, which resulted in nearly unanimous complaints about the ice. Once the Belmont...

I'm surprised I hadn't thought of him as a candidate for LIU. This is a good pick up for them. IIRC Harris had the misfortune of being a late commit to the previous coach (about 2 weeks before he was fired). He was never able to establish himself as a regular and eventually got caught in a numbers game...

  • Unless you guys know something i don't there's still a player we haven't discussed (well, two if you count Brett Miller). Dylan Davies is a 2001 so, if we are bringing him in, that tells me Smith really likes his talent and doesn't want to lose him. Admittedly he had an odd season last year - not...

  • Interesting analysis. I think Smith really values defense in his centers and Dubinsky is very strong in that regard so I doubt he will be moved to wing. Although I think all of our centers play a two-way game (with the caveat that I've never seen Beaton play), if the weakness is on the right side...
