This is what puzzles me. I mean, as a Yankees fan, I can't get mad at what the Dodgers are doing, because the Yankees did this so often.

Sure. But the article also says it would be very difficult to get those teams to agree to be in the same conference. Travel would be insane. And some have ideas of getting into nearby conferences. For years, DiGregorio (sp?) has been trying to get the "orphan" programs to band together...Leave a comment:

Formula 1 did this when Bernie Ecclestone was in charge. When Liberty Media took over, they've been more lax. Not completely, but they understand the power of some free publicity.

This is not true. There are a few one sport conferences which are totally independent and share nothing with any other conference, especially in D1 -- Atlantic Hockey for example. In D3 it makes sense to share operational costs for budget reasons, but it's not mandatory.

Empire 8 runs the UCHC. Same commissioner. Same SID. Same admin. (Just like the SUNYAC ran the NEWHL.)
Last time I spoke to people in E8 last year, they gave me the impression they weren’t going to change the naming of UCHC. But it certainly would make sense if they did.

I was wondering about the logistics also. There has to be consolation rounds, otherwise no team is going to want to enter a tournament which could cause them to have less than 34 games on the season.
