2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

Yeah, there are a ton of guys that played and didn't win. But, they don't have a mic in their face at that moment. Milbury is in the same boat, but he didn't play for Chicago.

It is cool that he remembers the little kid. Roenick made it hard for me to hate him with how he handled the whole situation with Kurtis Foster busting his femur in two places in San Jose.

Still don't really like him, but I don't hate him.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

I'm just saying there are a ton of guys who gave their life to a team, and didn't win a ring. Given the profession he CHOSE, cry on your own time. It's not like you missed it by a year, for example. And even then...

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

This series was marginally better than watching the Ducks win it. So, in other words, I'm glad it's done.

I'm must be getting really soft as a Wings fan these days because I was ridiculously entertained by this final.

patrick kane's interview was awesome. :)

mcguire: "be on your best behavior at the parade"
kane: "not a chance!"

That interivew with Kane on NBC was freaking awesome. He might be a cocky dick but he's got outgoing personality, something 95% of NHLers SEVERELY lack. Also, Kane adding, "I can't believe that just happened. Holy crap!" was a great and human touch to it all. Who amongst us wouldn't have the same reaction?

I actually felt a little bit sad for Roenick there. He may be a blowhard, but he spent many years of his life trying to win that thing and never did, and it's gotta be tough for him.

Same deal here for JR. He was drafted by the Blackhawks, came up as a Blackhawk and got traded out of town by cheap-arse dead-to-the-world loser Bill Wirtz. If I was in his shoes and had that kind of history with a team, especially being a kid and losing in your only final in 1992.. I'd be weepy and proud too.

It was a nice and wonderful human thing to see and f-ck Milbury for trampling all over it like a goddam elephant. Just like his career as a GM, he ruined everything that was great about that moment. Patrick seized the moment to ask him about it and JR obliged.

Congrats to Bomber and kennedy. I'm jealous of kennedy for getting to be there. Maybe I'll get my chance to go to the final next year.

The hockey itself was good, but the players behind the sweaters just make me cringe.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

Funny, I got the impression that JR was a little bitter about this Hawks team winning it all and when he gets back into town he's going to drive out to Dollar Bill's gravesite and sh** on it.

At first he had the smile on while talking about the team, but the longer he remembered the '92 team, along with how long the camera stayed on him, it created that awkward moment where you see him absolutely wish it was him out there with these Hawks, or that he wished the Hawks never won it.

But everyone is absolutely right, Milbury plowed over that moment as gracefully as Flurey came out onto the JLA ice in the first 2008 cup final. Part of that I think was Milbury realized just how awkward the moment had become.

JR was [ ] close to pretending Milbury was Dollar Bill. :D

Yes to the softness. There's a lot of people in this state that rooted for the Indian head boys given that their fans favorite chants are "**** Detroit" and "Detroit sucks".

A few more years of them kicking the Wings around, (and the sudden upsurge of longtime Blackhawk fans in West Michigan) will probably remind them of why fans of Detroit teams don't cheer for Chicago teams against Satan's legions, much less anyone else.

I'd root for the Red Army over Anaheim or the Kings.

Oops.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

I have to say, even with what happened to the Bruins (::sniff::), that was one of the most entertaining playoffs I've witnessed. From the fun of the opening rounds till last night's victory, it was just a great showing by the NHL. I'd hope that they gained a few new fans this year. I'm kinda bummed that hockey is over for a while.

What I found fascinating was when Doc Emrick (or was it Dan Patrick?) was talking about when the Blackhawks won it in 1961. It was April 16th. They won it again, but this time it was June 9th. Heh.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

Milbury has all the grace and subtlety of a cat in a swimming pool.

Edit: How funny would it have been if JR stopped Milbury cold and referred to him as "Eurotrash"?

Well, they get a bit tired of playing the same 5 teams over and over again eventually. :p

Every single dude in the NHL is cocky. You don't make it as a pro and not think you are the ****. You are. These guys are all the best of the best and they know it. If any one of us were to throw on an NHL jersey ( even on a team we hate), it would get to us. Saying otherwise is just sour grapes.

its a dream for many, and a reality for very very few.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

Did anyone see this?

Levy, Kane, and Melrose

I love this kid. I hope the Hawks have someone watching him very closely, if you know what I mean. ;)

Are there really only two Hawks fans that post regularly on this board!? Thanks for the congrats. I look forward to hearing from Kennedy on his experience.

Blackhawks Hockey: CUP!!!

Yeah...JR just watched the team he is best known for being a part of do what he never could, if that was me I would probably be emotional too. I have no ill will towards the guy (hate listening to him talk but never hated him as a player) dont we always hear about how winning the Cup is the goal of every player and how special it is? Now you are all giving a dude crap because he feels bad he never did and feels proud (he says that twice) that the franchse he was a part of finally did it?

People really need to lighten up.

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

Been waiting for this for 36 years myself. Have loved the 'Hawks since I was five. SWEEEEEEEEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :D :)

Yep, it is like the quote from Bull Durham "Be cocky and arrogant even when you're getting beat. That's the secret. You gotta play this game with fear and arrogance."

To be the best you have to know you are the best. Now, the difference between a star and an *hole is class. But that is a different discussion :) (and often overrated anyways)

Re: 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs IV: "The game puck just got Prongered"

First the Rags, then the Dead Things, and now the Hawks. Perhaps there is hope for the Leafs in another 10-12 years... :p

But it sure looks like Chicago is set up to be a Detroit (multiple cups) rather than a New York (one hit wonder).

Crap. My thread title wasn't a jinx after all.

Thousands of fans gather in Wrigleyville to celebrate Cubs' 9-4 win over Milwaukee

The intersection of Clark and Addison was filled with fans celebrating the Cubs huge 9-4 win in Milwaukee Wednesday night, which moved the North Siders to just five games under .500 and 6.5 games behind the first-place Cincinnati Reds in the NL Central.

"We support this team win or lose," said one fan who was too drunk to remember his name. "Chicago's number one tonight. Hell, Chicago's number one forever!"

Most fans were wearing red, apparently to distinguish themselves from the Brewers who wear blue similar to the Cubs. Many held signs and banners boldly stating "World Champs" and "Philly sucks!" evidently eyeing up the two-time reigning NL champion Phillies as a likely post-season opponent for the Cubs.

Chicago was powered to their win by Geovany Soto and Marlon Byrd who each had a pair of homers. Derrek Lee hit the 300th HR of his career while Carlos Zambrano picked up just his second win of the season and rookie Andrew Cashner threw two scoreless innings of relief. The game's stars' mix of experience levels was not lost on the Wrigleyville revelers.

"This team's combination of a good young core and skilled veterans has us well-positioned for long-term success," said Phillip Johnson of Wrigleyville. "After this year's championship, we could win several more. I'm pumped! After our long drought, Chicago's finally awesome again!"

Sources indicated a ticker-tape parade downtown is planned for tomorrow morning, just hours before the Cubs take on the White Sox for the "BP Crosstown Classic," about which everyone in the sports world is going absolutely nuts.

Uhhh, the salary cap says hi.

More like it punches them in the face :)

Chicago put all their eggs in the basket of winning this year...and they did. i still hate them!

I tend to agree, though I don't think it should have happened in the first place, as he should be nowhere near a broadcast booth, but that's a different issue.

I think everyone can agree that Milbury is an idiot.
