UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

Bigger, faster and stronger than Maine. Really tough loss at home, score wasn’t bad but they were dominated. Really solid UConn team, wouldn’t be surprised to see them win the HE tourney.

A lot questions heading into next year, this team can’t grind out wins when they struggle to score.

So has Barr been bad at recruiting? Why hasn't Maine been able to keep up with other HE programs? If you can't recruit and can't coach.....it doesn't matter how telegenic you are.....you can look and sound the part but the truth comes out on the ice.

Didn't see that. Uconn scored two goals. We have no scoring touch..it was. 2 to 0. Stop with this bullshit

I don’t think Barr hasn’t been able to recruit, I think this year should have been viewed as a rebuilding year but given the talent of the players we signed from the CHL, a lot of fans got excited and expectations got carried away (myself included).

In addition, my hunch is this isn’t the right collection of players despite them being pretty talented. Maine needs to find some size and grit in the portal next year to compliment some of their smaller more skilled players. This is why we often see the Komarov, pichette and gerrior line as the most effective, they run the system how it’s intended to be run.

Watching that game you really thought Maine got chances off the cycle and at the net front the way last year’s team did? I can see the argument that Maine lacks sharp shooters but talent wise this team stacks up

In what mythical dimension of reality has Maine ever kept up with BU and BC in the last two decades. There rosters and the NHL has been loaded with their players for decades, aside from the now ancient Walsh and Cronin years and the decade that ended with 2007. Its been nearly 20 years since you have been relevant, or a threat in hockey east, that's got nothing to do with Barr yet year after year this thread can write 150 pages on what's home wrong. The landscape of college hockey has changed. That's it.

Anyone else want to join me in the "looking ahead to next year" game?

There are five seniors on this roster currently, and one of them is Fowler so essentially only four since he will be back next year for his redshirt season. Those four are Holt, Chabrier, Arnott, and Freel. Three of those guys are everyday players, but if Im being completely honest, I think only Holt is a huge loss. As for early departures, its anyone's guess, obviously all eyes will be on Poirier in particular. For incoming freshmen, Mistlebacher is probably the highlight of the '05s. I think all would agree that the thing to watch in the summer will be the portal, both for incoming and outgoing moves.

It's gonna be an important summer for the program coming up.

Probably better suited for the recruit thread, but Mistelbacher and Voronin feel like necessities at this point. I think there will be a pretty big roster churn just based on the way Barr has talked about culture, seems like there will be a lot of opportunities up for grabs. Wouldn't be surprised to see another large incoming class and a decent sized exodus of fringe guys.

I'm guessing Calvert will also be part of that incoming class but I'll be curious to see who else and if Barr can bring in some players down the middle. The recruit list looks very thin of centers and super wing heavy at the moment.

Rousseau played well tonight without any help, but who knows where Barr looks in net next year if Boija actually is gone. I'm on the fence whether I think he should leave. I'm weirdly thinking Maine might be better off if he comes back with a full offseason to reset and find his game again.
