UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

This team doesn’t have good situational awareness. The hockey IQ just isn’t where it needs to be. Add to it panicky goaltending in crunch time. That whole sequence when Rousseau is flopping around on his back, his own d men are in the crease getting in his way, they can’t get out and just play the opposing forwards to tie up their sticks, Rousseau finally recovers panicky and over corrects and leaves right side of net wide open, our own defense still on their ass in the crease. What an absolutely atrocious looking defense in crunch time. Defense down at the goalies feet and just don’t get up. They were in slow motion but Providence was at normal speed. Then you have times when the defense needs to clear the zone and they refuse to. Arnott what kind of chip out of the zone was that? More like setting the guy up for a one timer right on his stick. And coaching… why do you have Arnott out there at the most important time of the game? Here is a guy that barely makes the line up and he’s who you want in charge of flipping pucks out when under pressure in last few minutes of a game you are clinging to a 1 goal lead.

The team really let the home crowd down a lot this year.

1-1-0 vs Colgate
1-1-0 vs Vermont
0-2-0 vs UNH
0-1-0 vs Providence(choked)

At least they beat Lindenwood, Holy Cross and BU in OT.

But the rest of it is garbage.

Would like to see Barr take some of the blame for once. He seems to blame his players....and many times publicly. Not a good look....and very average coaching at the moment.

Looking back at Maine's coaches we had.....

The emotional AND intellectual Shawn Walsh.
The intellectual Tim Whitehead.
The emotional Red Gendron.

Now we have the somewhat aloof Ben Barr. I wouldn't classify him as emotional or intellectual. I also get a weird vibe that Barr doesn't love being at Maine. Don't get me wrong....he's professional enough and I'm sure he loves his paycheck....but I don't think that he loves the Alfond, the fan base, Orono, the state, etc. I think that to coach any sport in Orono....you have to LOVE being there and being a Black Bear.....even if you know it's a temporary stop in your coaching career.

This team just isnt very good.
Players and coaching.
Everyone wants them to be better than they are.
They played with heart tonight but its not enough. A very talented and strong team just outlasted the boys and got it done.

I sure hope Barr can get out there and get some bigger, talented, strong kids for the future or its just going to be a repeat of the red years.

The alfond seems to bring out the best in opposing teams this year.
Also really tired of hearing opposing teams hooting and hollering getting off the ice going to the locker room after another win.

I feel like its more that he is so frustrated with this team and border line has just had enough of them.

Its fucking embarrassing. Providence got outplayed most of the game and we have another pants shit moment at the end of the game and we get to watch them troll the fans for the game tying goal and then even more on the game winner. Are they a good team? Sure. But they also got lucky because the offside call on Holt was fucking criminal and could have changed the game. It was atleast a foot onside.

Team played hard, they made the usual mistakes. Soft goals, too many penalties. Can't chip the puck out. The PP is anemic, can't get it set up at all. Its frustrating for them I'm sure. I knew bringing in 13 players was going to be an issue but I figured by now it would be smoother sailing, It will interesting to see how many stay. PC owns Maine and has for years, Leaman is a good coach and has his players ready. They have size and speed and work as a unit. Guess I won't be seeing Maine in Lost Wages :)

Was the offside on Holt not the too many men penalty, and wasn't it DJurasevic, not Holt, or was there another stupid play that I missed?
