You have never seen a game where the team that played best didn’t score and lost.

I doubt you are this much of a newbie.

Goalie are the most important players on the ice. Defensemen are important.

Losing to scrub ass UNH defensive shell shitting our pants at home to this trash ass team losing points in hockey east = we don't have it right now. May have it. But this is FUCKING EMBARRASSING
 
Felt like a carbon copy of losing to Vermont a few weeks ago. Game played tight and close throughout, tied into the third. Maine commits an awful turnover at the offensive blue line leading to a rush that the opponent buries. Opponent packs it in the rest of the way and Maine was powerless to break thru for a goal. They have proven twice now they are incapable of scoring if the opponent simply packs it in defensively. I said out loud as soon as McDonald scored that New Hampshire was going to win, and I was right. Maine never really even came close to tying it. Incredibly frustrating loss. At-large hopes essentially dead.
 
was Maine the better team tonight? Maybe…. But still a far cry from what they should be. They don’t play 60 minutes and can’t find goals when they need them. I really want to believe in the team we have because I know the talent is there but they are unbelievably frustrating.

It doesn't matter who "plays better". The score at the end of the game is what counts. Sorry if that rubs you the wrong way but playing well and losing doesn't get you a trophy.
 
I've been on record here several times as being very bullish and optimistic on this team. And maybe I'm just overreacting to a tough loss in a rivalry game, but I've soured on that assessment somewhat significantly. If they didn't have the Friday 5-4 win against BU on their resume, where they kept coming back and eventually won, I would have probably have them completely written off as front-runners who have no fight. The Terriers aren't even very good, by the way. Maine is so hot and cold and inconsistent, and to be frank about it, inconsistency is a sign of a bad team. I dont even think its an effort problem, but like I said earlier tonight, they all just try to do way too much and play hero-ball, and they clearly get frustrated easily.

Last year was the year.

There was no trophy on the line tonight.

If you want to get another opinion on having the other team sneak a win for a trophy when their goalie stole a game ask the UNH fans that are in town.

Regardless, Maine played well enough tonight but didn’t get a win, it’s hockey.

Let’s hope tomorrow is a better result. But I would want them to play like they did tonight. Maine played well.

We can agree on hoping they win tomorrow night! No trophy on the line tonight but valuable NPI points were lost.

They did. They lost to Vermont that same way. UNH did well boxing guys out in front. Lots of pucks in front that our guys couldn’t get to, or sticks were lifter. Why? UNH Dmen were staunch there and wanted the clearing of the puck and our guys weren’t strong enough to dig in there and out muscle them for the puck. Maine was soft in front of the UNH goalie. And all year our D has been soft in front of our own goalie. Though tonight I don’t think that was the issue. Everyone needs to get grittier in front of the UNH goalie tomorrow night.

I didn’t see Freel battling as hard in front tonight.

I saw Djuresevic fumble and Coughlin up the turnover that lead to a goal.

Saw lots of missed shots from Holt.

So, I would have to agree with you despite it making me sad.

Need the upperclassmen to get it into a higher gear as upperclassmen usually do.
 
UNH won that game somehow keeping Maine scoreless getting thoroughly outplayed in the first. Maine looked a step slower the rest of the way. This team is so mercurial it's painful to watch at times.

Can't wait to watch them look like the best team in the nation when they win 5-1 tmrw night because that seems like how just about every series has been.

If I could give this ten thumbs up, I would. Summarizes my thoughts perfectly. I was literally thinking of those three exact guys, plus Lynden Breen. I've already mentioned Taylor Makar by name a few times this year as it relates to the team missing his leadership (and size), and I have to imagine I will continue to do so.
