UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

That was a solid weekend considering all of the new faces....definitely some improvement from the UNH game. Now a trip to Q....things will get tougher next weekend.

Credit to the broadcast for fixing the camera issues from the first period last night.

New request- can we get a clock on the power play?
The graphics package comes from ESPN, and does include a separate power play clock. No idea why Maine isn't using it.

BU and Colgate tied 2-2 tonight in Boston and Providence gets swept at home by Michigan.

I think they were good, not great, this weekend. The scores were obviously nice but that's an opponent you expect to handle and to their credit they did. I think there were still some growing pains that will get ironed out over the year. Already excited for next weekend against Q.

Is Poirier as undisciplined as the box score indicates? Serves 2, comes out and gets whistled again after 14 seconds?
He is known to run hot. Hair color matches the temper, also likely comes from being smaller than everyone. He has to fight for every inch more than others. I’d imagine he had a target on his back after the night before

Love to see Langlois playing! I saw the assist, how did he look outside of that?

Lipinski and Langolis are going to be studs. Langolis is so smooth in person and has a rocket shot. He is just in the right place at the right time and is physical

Excellent. He handled the puck very well, making good choices and tape to tape passes. Additionally he did well on the penalty kill. No weaknesses seen over the weekend.

Good weekend , I wasn't thinking before Fridays game Maine would blow them out both nights. Good to see the Freshman get on board, looks like Maine might have some offense.
Boija did what Boija does. Loved the Komorov shortie, think he was making sure Holy Cross knew Maine didn't like all the cheap shots. Wonder if Maine moves up in the meaningless poll? On to a tough weekend at Quinnipiac

Every team in the meaningless poll ahead of us either lost or tied a game this weekend. So while I think there is a chance we are polled #1 come Monday I don't think we will be.

Also the person who pick Michigan as #1 in the poll at the beginning of the year is starting to look like a genius as of now.

My thoughts on this weekend goes as the following...

Poirier has a rocket shot. Aggressive while actively defending a player with the puck, a little undisciplined. Nadeau did Nadeau things. As someone mentioned earlier Poirier and Nadeau looked like the Nadeau brothers Friday .

Lipinski impressed me the most, he was possibly our best forward this weekend. Quicker skater than I thought he would be being 6'4.

Komorov and Pichette always seemed to always give 110% whenever they were on the ice.

Scott was as advertised. I was expecting Marques to be more noticeable.

Boiya was good as always.

The defensemen had a couple of bad turnovers and plays.

I don't know if it's just me but Djurasevic seemed to play a little worse compared to last year. I know it was the 1st and 2nd game of the year so it was probably just getting back into the flow of things.

Langlois looked like a stud especially after not playing in a game for almost a year and a half. Had incredible vision. It's no wonder he is a 2nd round draft pick.

Motew was quietly very good too. Chabrier, Holt, and Nobes for the most part looked good though I think they had a couple bad turnovers.

Everyone else didn't really stand out too much.

I agree on Motew, I thought he played well this weekend and he exceeded my expectations. I had him projected as a bench player in my original lineup forecast actually, but if he plays like that consistently he should be a lineup regular. Also, Nadeau looked excellent, like he will be a force this year. Looked a lot stronger and faster and more determined.

The other thing I liked about Lipinski is he didn’t take crap from the other team and would get in there to stick up for his guys. The Holy Cross team had some big dudes, and a lot of them kept trying to rattle Boija. Loved seeing Lipinski mixing it up with them after the whistle. It show heart and you usually see timidness from rookies. Not Lipinski, he’s showing no timidness or fear day 1. Also, he is won 17 face offs and lost 5. That is astronomical. I wouldn’t expect that rate all the time. But it points to a lot of ice time. If Barr can count on him to win a face off, he’s gonna put him out there on a lot of decision Barr makes when needing key face off wins.

On Marques, he had several chances but couldn’t’t quite connect. His game involves a lot of stick handling and playmaking. The stickhandling part might need time at this level because of lack of time and space. He’s going to have a pack converge on him the longer he holds the puck. And I saw him stickhandling handling through traffic several time but not emerging as active sticks from surrounding defenders stripped him. But he will learn to just chip to open ice instead and then win the race to the puck and things. So I think speed of the game is different for him and he needs more time to develop and learn what he needs to do if he doesn’t have as much time.
