RPI 2025 Off-Season: Help Is On the Way

Was in the neighborhood, so I drove by HFH this morning. There were no obvious signs (trucks, equipment, etc) indicating they were working on replacing the refrigeration / ice equipment, so I can only assume we'll be stuck with milky ice again this season. I thought I had read somewhere they were planning to get this work done this summer ??
Well, we know the original system installed in 1949 lasted through the 1982-1983 season literally by its' fingertips. By that season delays for ice repair literally became expected and sometimes even involved spraying the ice with stuff fire extinguishers have in them. Whatever that stuff is it not only puts out fires but makes good enough ice to resume a hockey game. That original system lasted 33 calendar years which covered 34 seasons.

The present system replaced that one in time for the 1983-1984 season. For comparison purposes, when the first puck of the 2025-2026 season is dropped on it, the system will be 43 years old in calendar years. However and unlike the original system, this fall the new one will also "only" be beginning its' 43rd season of service due to having one season off due to the program destroying shutdown.

As is the case with just about everything, there is a possible silver lining when and if the present system fails entirely and no hockey can be played at the Fieldhouse requiring games to be moved to an alternate site. Doubleheaders at the sparkling new casino arena with plenty of free parking for everyone!!! Possibly, though unlikely, even single admission ones just as MLB used to have back in the day. More realistically, especially when dealing with these greedy xxxxx, they would probably be day-night seperate admission doubleheaders just as MLB does these days.

Today is 23 July 2025. There are 74 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 5 October 2025 for the start of next season.

Personally, I'd prefer to have the displaced home games held in the 'burgh at Knickerbacker with general admission ticketing and Miller LIte at the concession stand. Ha ha. Make a night of it and meet Doc and Jenny at Verdile's for a gimlet and some veal ! LOL

This. Would only be a little less than who goes there now, attendance wise.

One really must wonder how little money these guys are letting guide their future. Unless Merrimack, a small school without a deep endowment that's trying to run a full D1 athletic department on D3 level fan support, has a particularly wealthy hockey sugar daddy, how NIL much could they offer the kid? They are undoubtedly desperate as their "offense" last season made ours look robust. Their top goal scorer had 9 (incredibly with 0 assists) and then decided to transfer. Maybe they successfully scrambled to find Henneberry some last minute money as I believe they opted in to the House settlement. We'll see if it was worth it. In any case, I have a few players every year that I have a schadenfreudian rooting interest against. He may be a candidate.

Remember reading somewhere that Merrimack did opt in. Also am pretty sure they appeared on a list I saw recently online of New England colleges whose finances aren't all that hot.

Hope this guy did really well with whatever his NIL haul was, if he got much at all. If all he got was chump change and that chump change was enough to cause a jump from Rensselaer to Merrimack then maybe we are better off without him.

Just say it a few times. Rensselaer to Merrimack, Rensselaer to Merrimack!!! It just don't swallow very well and most people (athletes or not) given the opportunity to attend Rensselaer would not make that trade for chump change. Again, if that trade was in fact made for chump change, then we are all probably better off without him.

I'll just say that based on the numbers I've heard for a couple other CHL players and comparing to his number, he got more than he is worth. Good for him, although Merrimack certainly could have used that number to get a better player imo

None of us may like it, but this is the world we're now living in with D1 athletics. The school needs to get on board and get someone publicly spearheading the player $$$ fundraising ....I would think I guy like Matt Murley would be an excellent "GM" for the hockey NIL effort. My two cents.

No question. Murley should spearhead this effort. He’s the perfect guy for the job.

He was a consistent, balanced scorer in the Q - a point per game guy his last two seasons. Not sure why we think a guy that consistent wasn't worth some dough...but whatever. Given his late switch, I have to think there was more to it than just $$.

Not saying he wasn't worth anything, just not worth the amount Merrimack gave him. He's a good player
