RPI 2025 Off-Season: HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It has to be Lang. You could sell me on the potential ceiling of hiring Dan Jewell but neither of those two are in the same world as Lang right now
Lang is obviously the best choice by far. I wonder how much interest the job generated? I was expecting some bigger names? Bowers should just skip the bullshit hand the keys to lang Monday morning.

Doyle is a head scratcher. He's spent his entire coaching career at Air Force outside of some USA Hockey work. All I can think of is that Col. Knowlton certainly interacted with him at his stop at USAFA and that might be where Doyle came from on the RPI list.

Agreed. RPI was the first job opening and we are now still vacant. I don't buy the job issue of the Mrs.....that's solvable in a few different ways.

Agreed! Something tells me they just didn’t generate the list of candidates they were hoping for. Jewell is a great recruiter but idk we need a fresh start from anything Dave. Doyle makes zero sense. No Beal? No OHL candidates no hockey East? No muse? Jesus Christ

If Lang is their choice, one plausible reason for the holdup could very well be Lang's work in conducting the transfer portal showcase April 5-6 in Simsbury, CT. It was his brainstorm and it has received enormous interest from players all across hockey D I, II and III. I am sure that is taking up all of his time leading up to that.

Times Union ran an interview today with Adam Oates and Daren Puppa on the 40th anniversary of RPI's last national title: https://www.timesunion.com/sports/a...0NGQ1LThmZmMtNmU0N2YzNjZjMGQy&sharecount=MA==

While the current state of RPI hockey is not discussed in the article, Oates is, of course, very complimentary of the coaching skills of the late Mike Addesa. Given the current coaching search, it's interesting to reflect on what made Big Mike so effective at RPI, especially since he was a college football player before he became a hockey coach.

The team has been bad for a long time, so it's a lateral move at best for current head coaches, and I think Dave Aiello was right that there are whispers that RPI is not serious about DI hockey anymore. Better to have a short list and glad to see the consensus pick in the mix.

Hopefully, this is close to being wrapped up...No shade on the other two, but Lang has to be the clear #1 choice, right? This list would give him confidence . . . and leverage.

21 days (3 weeks) since there has been a head coach.

This is based upon 4 October 2025 for the start of next season, and 10 March was the day that coach Smith was relieved of duty.
Need to pull the trigger this week on Lang.

Gotta move now, portal opens tomorrow I believe.

Lang's wife works at Mercy University in Dobbs Ferry. They live in the Hartford suburbs. For the life of me I don't know how they've been able to juggle those work schedules. The distance between Dobbs Ferry and Uniondale (or Brookville to the campus) is certainly shorter than Troy to Dobbs Ferry but as one that commuted for years from CT to a nearby location on LI, it's a traffic nightmare and crossing the Throgs Neck Bridge 2x per day transfers an obscene amount of income to the Bridge and Tunnel Authority.

Edit: I can't see LIU being a real competitor. First of all, no one on LI cares. They averaged 300 fans per game, beating only AIC and Stonehill. Second, scheduling is a nightmare, particularly after the holidays. They played Stonehill 8 times this season. They also played both Alaska schools, Lindenwood, Assumption, Saint Anselm, etc. just to get a full schedule. I don't understand the economics or logic that make playing D1 hockey at a rink about 10 miles from their LI campus (formerly CW Post) and 20 miles away from the main campus in Brooklyn make any kind of sense.
Remember Smith's wife was given a position at the 'tute possibly (Hopefully) the hold up is trying to work those details out w/Lang's wife anyone we hire will be an upgrade but Lang should be the target he is.our best shot to build a team that is a consistent threat then the chips will fall where they may !

I would have made myself available as a real dark horse except the salary quoted as being offered would be just too much of a cut for Jenny's lifestyle. it would mean fewer trips (if any) to Cartier and Bvlgari and we would most certainly have to sell one of her collectible cars. ;)

RPI being one of the few D3 schools fielding a D1 programs and not making a full-school D1 commitment has to raise long-term questions in this NIL/Junior era.

Lang is a great choice. Let’s get moving!

A couple things:
1) Make no mistake: this list of finalists indicates that RPI is not an attractive job to coaches. If AIC wasn't dropping down, I'm not convinced Lang would still be interested.
2) They haven't made a decision yet just to dispel the rumors of there being holdups of hiring Lang. The process moved slowly at first but has picked up in the past two weeks. Finalists will come to campus this week, and I hope they then have a decision announced after that by Thursday or Friday.
