MLB 2020: We'll Play Ball, I Guess.

You’re simply wrong. It was well documented during the UND nickname dispute that “Sioux” was a derogatory term applied by their enemies. As I recall it means “snake” or something similar.

As I stated in my post, I am aware of the historical origins of the term (I also stated the name of the tribe that developed the term in my prior posts). That being said, in today's society, I'm not aware of any significant faction who find the name Sioux, as it pertains to the group of people, to be offensive. It is similar to Scandinavian. As an example, Scandinavian is to Norwegian as Sioux is to Lakota.

Also, I'm done playing my role in hijacking this thread. My relevant comment still remains that the Cleveland baseball team is idiotic for continuing to use a nickname they find unacceptable. If you disagree with that, let's discuss it here. If you want to continue learning about the nuances between the Indians nickname and the Sioux nickname, start up another thread and we can continue it in there.

Sort of. But it was not due to the term "Sioux" being derogatory or offensive. It had to do with the school using Native American imagery/logos coupled with using the nickname for its sports team. Also, the saga was not really between the school and the tribes, but that is best served for another topic/thread.

holy sh-t that’s some serious denial.

Given that they probably had better players than most of MLB, it only makes sense. Then again, they might be insulted to be affiliated with such lousy talent.

What does this actually officially mean? Are NeL records and stats now fully integrated (no pun intended) into overall MLB records?

Pretty much. Players who played in both will have their stats changed.

Here’s an article on it. Willie Mays will have additional hits added to his career total. This is the first major league that would likely make a big impact on records since most of the other major leagues only lasted for a year or two.

Blake Snell on his way to San Diego. Some advice for his new manager, Jayce Tingler: If Snell is pitching a one-hit shutout in a World Series game for the Padres and has thrown just 70 pitches into the 6th inning while striking out the top 4 hitters 7 times in 8 at-bats, you might want to leave him in the game.

I wonder if Snell's belief or confidence in Kevin Cash or the Rays front offiece was so shattered by his removal in game 6 that he asked to be traded?

Looks like Cleveland is trading Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco to the Mets for some scrubs.

Great trade from a Twins' fan's perspective...Lindor is a great player who always made me nervous when he came to bat. IMO, Lindor might be the best player in baseball, and definitely a Top-5 talent. Carrasco is also a solid starter.

Of course, I'm certain the Mets will somehow still manage to be irrelevant, but very glad to see Cleveland lose big talent.

Meet the Mets, meet the Mets,
Step right up and greet the Mets.
Bring your kiddies, bring your wife,
Guaranteed to have the time of your life.
Because the Mets are really sockin' the ball,
Knockin' those home runs over the wall.
East side, West side, everybody's coming down,
To meet the M-E-T-S Mets, of New York town.

Oh, the butcher and the baker and the people on the streets,
Where did they go? To MEET THE METS!
Oh, they're hollerin' and cheerin' and they're jumpin' in their seats,
Where did they go? To MEET THE METS!
All the fans are true to the orange and blue,
So hurry up and come on down -
'cause we've got ourselves a ball club,
The Mets of New York town!

Give 'em a yell! Give 'em a hand!
And let 'em know you're rootin' in the stands!
Come on and...

Meet the Mets, meet the Mets,
Step right up and greet the Mets.
Bring your kiddies, bring your wife,
Guaranteed to have the time of your life.
Because the Mets are really sockin' the ball,
Knockin' those home runs over the wall.
East side, West side, everybody's coming down,
To meet the M-E-T-S Mets,
Of New York town,
Of New York town!
