That the Nazis are going to lie about their coup is not something that shocks me.

It's important to have the testimony and get as much on the record as possible. We may never have justice, but every time the Republicans, their enablers, and their voters lie about this, they dig themselves deeper into history's derision.

Its hard for me to be sympathetic to cops, but seeing what the Capitol and D.C. Metro Police went through on January 6 sure does elicit that kind of an emotion in me. At some point, allegiances or beliefs cease to matter and all you care about is "am I going to make it out of here alive and ever see my family again."

1-6-21 was in many ways worse by magnitudes when it came to the threat to our democracy than 9-11 ever was. It should go down in history as one of the darkest days in this country's entire history. Yet one of our two major political parties and nearly half of all Americans don't believe it was anything at all.

9/11 was a threat to our civil liberties and economy because of how we overreacted.

1/6 is a threat to our democracy because one party and 40% of American voters actively want our democracy to end.

By definition a government by the people can only exist while the people want it to be by the people. Now that a huge minority of the population want the government to be controlled by them even if they have to destroy democracy to do it, the only way to save democracy by peaceful means is to defeat them in every election from now on. The next time they win it's over unless/until we have a civil war.

They can never be in the driver's seat again.

"They" will probably be in the driver's seat in at least one of the cars come January 2023. This democracy will almost certainly fall and won't be saved by peaceful means.

At the moment they have a death grip on the Court, but that's not enough. They need all 3 branches. But if they get them even fifteen minutes it's over because in those fifteen minutes they can ram through their Enabling Acts.

FFS, it's been done before. We know exactly what they are up to. The previous guys left instructions before they fucked off to Antarctica or the Moon.

Just think, 40 passengers and crew gave their lives to stop United 93 from attacking DC, only to have the GOP do it two decades later.

Yeah, they're not very smart either. If you make fun of Jordan Peterson on reddit you get similarly pathetic results. It's like poking Randians was in the 90s. Lots of confidence and anger but not much brain power. Newt Gingrich should be their spirit animal.

The cognitive dissonance amongst the right on this topic is truly stupendous. Accuse everyone of being a pedophile, without an iota of evidence, but proudly support actual pedophiles like Gaetz and pedo-adjacent creeps like Boebert and Jordan.
 
It's crazy. There was a time when I was one of... 2? 3? right-leaning posters on this board. Yes, my views have shifted left a little bit but I'm far from being a progressive. But the right has veered off so far they're barely recognizable to me.

I mean good god they're making me defend Nancy Pelosi.

Besides, more of it is just projection. Besides pedos, Racists ran heavily on human trafficking- yet it's a rich R dude who did. And is associated with many fellow rich Rs. (Let alone the election fraud that has only come for dumpy votes).

That's because the Right doesn't use words the way we do. We use words to convey meaning, so correspondance to reality matters. They use words to ignite emotion. Truth value is beside the point to them.
