My staff has been in contact with local emergency personnel regarding the Forbes Avenue bridge collapse in Pittsburgh. We will continue to closely monitor the situation. Wishing a speedy recovery to those who are injured.

But:

And:
FKNSTwnXEAw6LAD

Republicans will lose zero votes over this. Zero. They'll all blame EVERY democrat who has ever been in office that could have affected that bridge.

Obviously the Republicans will deflect, deceive, and deny. That's what they do. But an effective Democratic party would control the framing and messaging and take the initiative. They would not respond or react to the mewling lies of the conservatives, they would simply state (1) what the problem was, (2) how the conservatives made things worse, and (3) how we will fix it if the voters give us more power. Simple.

The GOP has been doing this for decades: they grab every event, impose their interpretation, and shut out anybody else on their media. Do the same. Shut the 6-year old down, he doesn't get to speak just because he has a book of matches. Fuck him.

It's worse than that- R's are taking credit for the bill that they voted against. That's happening all over the country.

I don't think you understand what is really going on. Republicans tell everyone what they want to believe. There is no way to counter that. None. Reality sucks and Republicans never give you reality.

Point is it doesn't matter what the Republicans do. You can't change them (until we have laws strong enough to stop their fascism) and obviously you can't reach the people who have self-selected to be their infantry. So, you take those things as given. You find a way to reach the human portion of the electorate, and above all you do not play defense, you have plans and execute them and keep pushing. Germany 1945 showed us how badly fascists are at playing defense. The second they are on the retreat they fold up because they are cowards.

Yes. And this is the problem with the Democratic Party right now. They have no idea how to play offense.

Exactly Scoob. Its why union mine workers went full on into a party that hates unions, hates grunt workers and well just hates people. The Dems told them their jobs were stupid (they are) and that they needed to learn a new trade which we would pay for. The new jobs would probably pay better, give benefits and you know NOT FUCKING KILL THEM! The GOP said "nah fuck that keep your job risk your life for little pay or incentives, no benefits and when we bust the union zero protections. Oh, and when you lose your job anyways for a bevy of reasons, don't think about asking us for assistance!" People would rather hold out hope that the .0001% chance their life can stay the same and they can have everything they want, then face the truth and take the steps to fix it.

That is why Northern Minnesota can suck my dick when they start whining about anything. They abandoned a party literally dedicated to them that protected them and made sure even when they lost their jobs they could survive...so they could say a bunch of racist chit and keep their fucking worthless jobs. They knew they were being fleeced by Trump, they knew he had zero chance of doing what he said he would but they did it anyway. They crapped on the DFL and Walz and spit in the face of the Twin Cities every chance they could crying communism and socialism. Then they lost their jobs (cause you know, math doesn't lie) and they came begging us for unemployment and help...and that was before the Pandemic. Fuck that we should have made them pull themselves up by their bootstraps they didn't need our socialism before they can fucking choke on it now.

I believe this has been changing for more than a decade. Once we scrape the septuagenarian barnacles off the leadership there will be a new birth of freedom.

You mean like Nancy Pelosi? While she has not confirmed whether or not she will stick to her plans to forego another shot at the speakers chair (pointless, since the Democrats are going to be wiped out in the 2022 midterms and probably lose more seats than the republicans lost in 2018) you can bet she will still control the party to the extent she controls it now until she stops breathing.

Republicans have learned and adapted to become the party they are now. All it took was the realization that half this country is fascist and lies work far better than the truth with their voters. Democrats can't help themselves because progressive brains are wired radically different than nutjob brains. We can still function on the truth, and evidence, and logic. But we are saddled with elected leaders who either do not see it or do not trust enough of us to speak the truth. Republicans are the enemy. You can either support democracy or you can support republicans.

Too many Democrats in elected office will not come to grips with this. They toss their snark once in a while and we love it (we all smiled and laughed approvingly when Biden called the FAUX reporter a stupid SOB) but then they say they are going to work with them and show America bipartisanship works. Fuck that. How bipartisan were we when we were bombing our enemies to smithereens during World War 2? Does anyone think the republican party is any less of a threat to our democracy than the German or Japanese states were in the 1940s?

Our biggest problem right now is that arriving at that new birth of freedom in the 1860s was easier, because the lines were drawn more clearly.

Scooby, please!

Do you honestly think they are going to buck every historical trend AND reverse the ever-growing fickleness of the American voter?

The Virginia governor's election is an example of what will happen in suburban districts all over the country. And when even more people vote for Democrats we still win fewer seats thanks to the 5-1 advantage in gerrymandering republicans enjoy, and in 2022 republicans are almost certainly going to win more votes, and far more seats.

A New York Times study showed that districts were redrawn to more heavily favor one party over the other than at any time since the Voting Rights Act in 1965. Redistricting alone might give them the half dozen seats they need to flip control. Ohio, which usually splits it congressional vote about 54% R - 46% D, has sent 12 republicans and 4 Democrats to congress for the last few elections. In 2022 after losing a seat in the latest census will almost certainly send just 3 Democrats to Washington.

I suppose only one of us can be correct in an opposite prediction. You gonna come back and feast on crow when I am correct? I will if the Democrats hold on. That is unless I die from the shock.

I'm not making a prediction. I'm saying let's not pull the goalie before they even drop the puck.

I made it 5 seconds before she annoyed the hell out of me...but redistricting in NY was pretty solid. (was there more she said I turned it off)

Things are trending better for example: https://twitter.com/DemocracyDocket/status/1488972139260698626

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court will take over congressional redistricting after state lawmakers failed to enact a map. The court-appointed Special Master will recommend a redistricting plan and a revised election calendar by Feb. 7.

Which lead to this: https://twitter.com/Redistrict/status/1489324231036964864

NEW: for the first time, Dems have taken the lead on @CookPolitical's 2022 redistricting scorecard. After favorable developments in NY, AL, PA et. al., they're on track to net 2-3 seats from new maps vs. old ones.*

Now none of that means that will stop a Red Wave if it comes it just means that the Dems have successfully stopped a lot of the gerrymandering that was stacking the deck further.
