I reposted this because I was unable to fix small errors in the original.
I have been thinking of posting this question on USCHO for a couple of years, but there did not seem like an appropriate place, and I did not want to start a new thread. Has anyone heard of Emily Bear? Virtually no one whom I have asked who is more or less my age has. That seems odd considering what she has accomplished to date having recently turned 23.
Back in 2010, I googled the name of a niece named Emily Baer, and all of the matches were for the then 8- or 9-year-old child prodigy pianist and composer, Emily Bear. I have followed her career since then, quite sporadically until she graduated high school in 2017 at age 15. She decided to take a gap year before going to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, but she never did as her professional career rapidly grew. I have always felt that she took the gap year waiting for her older sister Lauren to graduate HS and go to BU. (Peripheral college hockey content: Lauren figure skated for BU, and they skated on BU’s hockey rink [the old one?]. https://www.instagram.com/p/CdnrbzuO4QG )
An excellent summary of Emily’s career, including her Grammy and Emmy, is on her Wikipedia page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emily_Bear . A few important things are missing including the recent completion of a score for a second Netflix film. Her talent must have impressed Netflix since they have now hired her twice despite the fact that they sued her and Abigail Barlow for plagiarism (settled out of court).
I have been wondering since early this year if the fact that Emily and Abigail have written the songs for Disney’s upcoming film Moana 2 (11/27/24) will increase her name recognition. The first song “We’re Back” was released at the recent D23 Expo (Disney fan club) in Anaheim. There are numerous recordings of it on YouTube. In all of them, crowd noise and the musicians drown out Auli‘i Cravalho (Moana’s voice). E.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xS6WPGG3SqE . Probably the best version is on Emily’s Instagram https://www.instagram.com/p/C-f-gSnyh05/ . Emily was working on Moana 2 while being Beyonce’s pianist in Europe and North America last year. This picture was taken by Natalie Imani, one of Beyonce’s back up singers, on the cast bus back to a hotel https://i.ibb.co/d0td90P/IMG-1319.jpg .
By the way, Emily is not a member of the same Baer family as me. Her great-grandfather shortened his name from Berkowitz (various spellings) when he became a US citizen.
I have never heard of Emily. Sounds like an amazing person.
Good evening Lodge!
Thanks, les. I should have written that I highly doubt that I would have heard of her either if I did not have a close relative with a similar name.
Since you are interested in genealogy, I should add that I had an interesting time putting together an ancestral chart for her, especially for her paternal grandmother who was born in Marrakesh, Morocco and lived in Paris after most Jews had to leave Morocco.

It is always fascinating to do someone's chart- its fascinating to look at places and people you would otherwise not know about.
