I have only hung out with people that do follow the rules/etc, hence some pushing of the limits in cases.

For example, today at Church, we had a 4 person table, and a 2 person table...next to each other. 6 feet in between, per executive order, but we were close enough to be able to talk, and not yell, and have a conversation. That sorta thing. Note: in MN, if you're the same household, the limit is 6; if not, the limit is 4.
I cannot bring myself to go out. Might be different other places but here if the place is closed they get unemployment. If they open the person is forced to work. My area is full of stupids who are NOT being safe and we are a pocket of increasing numbers. I did better in Maine where people being unsafe were statistically less at risk.

I was saying to someone the other day in my profession I have been trained to deal with situations which are uncomfortable or frustrating. I have the ability to sort of dissociate, hang in there with the discomfort, because it has an endpoint. Also working in a setting where everyone has the same understanding of rules and the same goal makes it manageable. Trying to use those coping strategies in this to sustain is not working

    • I have passed on places that are ignoring the rules/etc. It's just not gonna happen for me. I am armed with masks, due to the previously mentioned vacation coming up, and then a local parade is happening next weekend, which...this is kinda funny. They are not doing the normal route. Households had to sign up, and the parade will go by that household per request. This is almost an inner ring suburb, and that is so small-town behavior, it's hilarious. So my friends and I are having a BBQ (again, taking note of number of guests, masks, etc). We did joke that in MN it's a 25 person limit, unless it's a protest. Then the limit is 100 people (not kidding). We're making signs, just in case.
Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

          • OK, so I got a new dishwasher. It has a setting for "2-4-8 hour delay."

Why do I want a delay on my dishwasher?

I've actually given this a fair amount of though and... nuthin'.

VA is still a cornucopia of MAGAts, so we are not going out anywhere. I took situational awareness training for my work and it's actually helped me a lot. So has being a natural paranoid from a NYC suburb. I am super aware of anybody coming up from behind and I am alert to angle away from blind corners. What were honed as anti-mugger skills are now effective as anti-Dump evasive maneuvers. There are lots of maskless zombies and frequently they are outwardly belligerent towards people wearing masks. It only takes one dickless conservative to ruin your day.

                • I haven't and will not go to a restaurant. I don't event want to do outdoor dining. On Saturday, a close friend invited me over to her house. She has a pool. There were five of us. Her yard is big. We were physically apart. It was such a delightful day. I really did miss it. But, because I did that on Saturday, I don't go to the beach as I planned on. I'm not going out at all this week with the exception of food shopping on Friday.

If you live in a small place and/or the dishwasher is loud you can delay it to run at night so it is not annoying during the day.

Question (or rather questions) for you:

Did you have to get a new dishwasher or was it just to upgrade?

Where did you get it? Big box store? Appliance store?

                      Who installed it? Plumber? DIY?

I ask because I ran my dishwasher today and I think it’s on its way out. I was hoping to get a plumber to come in to give me an estimate on a hot water heater and then take care of a few things but if I also need to have a plumber install a dishwasher, I want him to come and do everything.

Those dismissals (except the protest rule) are not really serious. The protest rule is ridiculous. The virus doesn't care why you are gathering.

As for the dishwasher, my apt complex rules state that you cannot run a dishwasher, washer, or dryer outside the hours of 8am-10pm (noisy). So if your job schedule (or whatever) doesn't really let you run stuff during those hours, that delay is a huge help.

This was no upgrade: the motor blew on my old one and it was like something out of Myth Busters.

I got a new dishwasher from Lowes. I researched on Consumer Reports, found 4 models that matched my needs, then cross-referenced their inventory and happily found one. They had a subcontractor come out and look over our island to make sure there was no issue (you need to go into the frame sideways to not hurt the granite, and depending on where the hookups are sometimes there are non-standard hoses). The DW was $800 and the delivery / install / haul-away was $200. I was very happy.

I like having the store's sub do appliances because they spend all day dealing with the same models and they learn a zillion ways of avoiding the hassles that will always occur. A plumber might go back and forth to the store 3 times. Also, you have a locked in appointment (it took all of 20 minutes) so for something like a water heater or a DW you know you're not going to wind up without it for 10 days while your plumber gets sidetracked by some other project / spouse / arrest / etc.

Well, if it is as hot as the center of Africa and you do not have AC you run it in the middle of the night.
