  • My mom is starting to accept reality that traveling while cases continue to climb is a terrible idea.
I'm gonna miss seeing them. My mom had been trying to visit every 2 months. She cancelled her trip in late March, a wedding planned for May was cancelled, our trip to the lake in August got cancelled. I think with all those she was still holding out hope for the holidays. Heck, back in March I was holding out hope for the wedding in late May. Then I still though August family trip might happen.

    • My parents booked a trip in March. We know they won't make it but they insist on being 'optimistic'.
I am just praying mr les makes it to when he can retire next June. Scared sh1tless isn't even close to the depth of fear I have for all our safety

Heck, I live 20 minutes from my parents, and I've seen them maybe 4 times (which includes my brother's wedding) since St Patrick's Day (when the MN shutdowns started). And two of those times have been in the last 50 days or so. They are on a self-imposed serious lockdown.
Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

              • Good Morning Lodge!

I wish I only had to deal with staying safe at home. We have to deal with what to do when games start. At least one team in the league has shut down twice (seems that has successfully been hushed because I can't find it on google) with no repercussions because the stupid is coming from the coaching staff. The teams aren't in a bubble, they are traveling back and forth to very active hotspots in an enclosed bus and then playing a game masked (ha!) where there is no way the masks will stay where they belong. Not only that but the have scheduled games in a way that he will be working every holiday, full day because the coach is an a hole and so far the AD, safe in his little hidey hole, doesn't think it is OK to make them take Christmas off, never mind any other day.

No way to know when he would be infected or not. The season is for months. Do we isolate him in a part of the house? (this alone is a problem- we would have to plastic things off otherwise he would have to wander the house to go to the bathroom) DO we roll the dice and isolate him only if he tests positive nd hope if he is infected he didn't hand it off before they found it? They make arrangements for the players to have a place to isolate but have no plan if staff gets sick. They asked and were refused accommodation in the place they put up the players. They have not addressed what happens if he gets sick as far as workmens comp. If he tests positive my kid won't be able to work either. All because the mucky mucks who have to take no risks on their own want people to play a game. If I see one more ad touting they are going to play I may do serious physical harm to someone. I muted a bunch of people on fb because they keep posting how excited they are the season is starting. I am not. Cranky this morning- haven't slept well in days, still don't know the answer. The bonus- when I get this messed up in the head I stop eating. Lost 5 lbs already.

                • Evening, Lodge. The new MN mandate rules are a bit silly. Had my normal brunch at a local place. Due to the mandate, the bartender could not slide my meal/drink over the bar (they had 2 tables on the rail, so not actual rail seating, but it was rail seating, it fell within the guidelines). She had to walk 20 feet around the bar to the actual service area, and then serve us.

Really? I mean, come on...she was not happy about it, either. I'm all about following these mandates, etc, but JFC. This situation is a little over the top. If there is no rail seating, then why allow tables right next to the rail?

                      • Aw man, les, that is infuriating! How can they not provide any guidance around staff? Oy. You should check out the UVM thread over in DI. One of their posters think it's a non-existent problem and is upset that UVM cancelled athletics for two weeks.

I have misplaced a portable phone charger. There are many places left here for me to store things as I've cleared out a lot of crap. I have others but they're stored in the storage unit in the garage. I'll go down there later to get one. It's driving me nuts as to what I did with it. I think I may have inadvertently threw it away.

Saturday morning I went to the dealership (shut up - I don't have a local mechanic) because my tire pressure light has been coming on AGAIN. This past July I wound up having to replace a sensor and left front axle. Took care of everything, then about a month ago it started coming on again. I told the service guy I know it could just be something as simple as needing air in one of the tires. It wound up being a nail in one of the tires. Then of course they proceed to tell me my tires are worn (which I knew) and I should replace them. And my brakes are in bad shape. ::head desk:: The main reason they are in bad shape is because I do not drive my car a lot (even without the pandemic keeping me home) and it's parked outside. I can't win. Anyway, they gave me a loaner car, said they would work on it and I could pick it up in the afternoon. And naturally, when I went there at the end of the day to pick it up, they said it wasn't ready. Now I'm waiting for them to call me to let me know I can get it. I have no meetings today so I can go any time. Getting annoyed I haven't heard.

                        • I broke my total distance of bike riding in a year which I set in 2017. It was, however, much easier routes. (few hills)

Well, that isn't the place that I knew was shut down so that makes 2. And at least a couple of others have been on and off. Amazing how they manage to hush it up.

Last night lilnsl spoke up (on his own, without having heard what I said) and said we, as a family, need to have a plan because when the mr tests positive we need a plan for how he is going to quarantine in the house. Then lilnsl and I had a conversation while the mr contributed nothing. I cannot begin to express the depth of disgust I have that my 24 yr old kid has more chops and is willing to deal with reality while the person causing the issue is still trying to pretend it isn't one. I have an email all composed to send the chancellor. She and the AD and the HE commish all are safe in their bunkers letting others take the risk. I waited to send it. Giving it a few more days then sending it. I have 2 degrees from the U and I want her to know her deciding to do this affects real people. It makes her complicit in putting people at risk without providing for the inevitable result when someone gets sick.
