It is in the 70s and humid. How crazy is that for New England in mid-November? The leaves are falling like a snowstorm.
It's definitely cooler here today than it was yesterday but I still have my balcony door open to get some fresh air.

      • seeking opinions/guidance:

Family wants to get together for Christmas. 9 people(3 households): My parents, bro, his wife, their 2 kids, me, wT baby (maybe 8 people, 'cause NaSK doesn't want to go). Original plan was rent a house in Alabama, everyone would drive 10-12 hours, by driving we would have very little contact with other people and greatly limit exposure. The more the Houston families thought about it, the less they wanted to. Mom says it's because she doesn't want me driving 10 hours alone with a 1.5 year old.
Now, they want me to fly to Houston. I have enough anxiety when I fly, and that's before having a toddler and not during a pandemic. I know they are making people wear masks on airlines now, and they say the filtered air is safer than say a conference room without filtered air. I still don't know.

My parents are 70 and overweight and I really don't want to be the one that brings the virus to them. At the same time, my family hasn't seen wT baby since she was 7 months (last Christmas). Back then her only skills were rolling over and smiling. Now she runs, knows some words, claps, gives kisses, waves bye-bye....she's grown so much. My mother says if I won't come in December, she's flying to MI in January.

I'm stuck between wanting my family to spend time with wT baby at this age, and not wanting the stress of travel with a 19 month old and potential covid exposure of myself or my family.

No, no, no, no,no, [repeat!] All NOOOOOO! If you love people stay home. It isn't just the flying. I could make a list that fills the page for why this is a bad idea. It sucks that you haven't seen people but jeebus- is it worth killing them or getting them really sick or you dying? Currently have 3 people in the fam who are in various stages of sick- one is just out of the ICU. They were attempting to be careful. The one who got it in March is still not better. This sh1t doesn't negotiate or understand whether you want to see people. It just kills them or incapacitates them.

Edit- and considering TX is now one of the world leaders in numbers (more than all but 4 countries).... why would she not love her grandkid enough to stay away.
God this makes me so crazy.

            • Zoom the meal. Do it up right, have your device at the table, like you're all there, etc, and Zoom it (or Skype it, or whatever).

One of my local breweries got hit with 2 positive cases, announced last night, and I was there on Sat. However, heard back from them, and the 2 positives were NOT working when I was there. I only had contact with one staff member (convo of more than 2-3 minutes; staff is always masked up). This is day 5 since I've been there, and I feel great, so not worried. But when that news first hit...yeah, I wanna know if I'm in the line of fire or not.

You couldn't pay me to fly right now, btw.
Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

                    • I am debating about driving to Milwaukee for Thanksgiving. The main factor is that my mom hasn't seen Baby wore Black since he was 2 weeks old. I am not worried about my mom. It is my dad. He goes to the bars. He claims that he doesn't go anywhere he doesn't feel safe. I have told him that I do not feel safe by his word. At Thanksgiving, they are going to have 2 additional people at their place. One I know is ok. It is the other one that has the same mentality as my dad.

                      • WT and LwB - I’d say pass on the gatherings. As Rube said - zoom or FaceTime the meal and plan a future gathering when COVID is more in the rear view mirror. Not worth the risk as cases are on the rise.

This. Currently in Mass they are tracking spread and giving #s for where its happening. It is just the type of thing being described here that is the main cause. If they don't live in your house they don't do it. Being close to someone or being genetically connected doesn't mean transmission won't happen. It makes me insanely frustrated that this message is not getting out and saturating the media. I keep saying this and I will say it again- is it worth dying or killing someone to see them? The words just and only are killing words. I feel like no matter how many ways they are trying to get this out into the public messaging I keep hearing people say they neeeed to see someone because it has been so many months or [fill in the reason]. There is NO reason, no matter what we wish, that is a good reason. They can't keep the NFL safe testing on a daily basis. There is no way people in the regular life will even come close.

::climbs off soapbox:: Sorry if I am coming off strident. Lost count of the people affected in my life. It sucks and no amount of knowing they thought they were safe will undo what the consequences have been or make it worth it.

                          • T-Day will be only my parents and me, due to restrictions, and our following every rule and then some. My brother's household has 10 CURRENTLY living there, so that's out (plus, I'm sure they will not follow the mandate in MN). I'd rather be over-cautious then sick or dead.
