      • Every now and then, the idea of retiring does seem more alluring and interesting. Like today. My co-worker emails me with a question about how to kick things off with our Creative Services team, copies one of her directs. This direct report is the same job grade as me but I'm technically more senior as I report to her manager's manager. Anyway, over the past few years, this girl has at times treated me as a bit of a subordinate/admin. So I respond to my co-worker's email with the form and tell them both where/how it needs to be submitted.

An hour later, direct report girl emails me the form and says here it is! Like I'm supposed to submit it for her. Because she doesn't do that. So, I forwarded that email to co-worker and ask if this is something I'm working on, because if so, thanks for no heads up though happy to do it. She says no, direct report girl is working on it. And adds a smiley face.

So I respond to direct report girl with step by step instructions on how to submit that took longer to put together than if I had just submitted it myself. But too bad! And now because co-worker added that smiley face, it makes me wonder if the two of them discussed what to do and direct report girl said let's see if [Scarlet] does it or something.

I know, I know. Stupid and petty of me. But still...like, why? Co-worker should have taken my email and sent an email to direct report girl and said "submitting this request is your job!"

        Acchh! Annoying.

I have a call at 3:00 with the Financial guy from the company managing this retirement offer. Sooo many questions to be answered.

        • As soon as I see smileys in a response to a polite request or an otherwise innocuous email, I assume that person is being passive-aggressive.

            • Well, that call with Retirement Opportunity Guy has my head spinning. I should have a clearer idea of what to do after I meet with my own Financial Planner Guy tomorrow, but it looks like I have two options if I take this offer:

              - Find a new job (and it doesn't have to be at the salary I'm making now; could be 40% of what I make now, preferably contract work)
              - Sell my condo, move to an apartment further outside the city and live off of the sale till I'm able to start taking money from the retirement accounts

If I can do the first, I may not need to do the second. But who knows what kind of job I can get in this market at my age? And how long will it take for me to get something? I feel like I would have a better chance of getting as much as I can for my condo if I sell now rather than waiting a year so I may have to bite the bullet and make that decision in the next 2-3 weeks.

I hate being an adult sometimes.

              • I don't have any advice for you, but the market - particularly within the 95 belt but definitely extending to the 495 belt - is absolutely bonkers right now. Do a Zillow search on your neighborhood and be amazed.

                • The market here is also insane. Houses are going for 10-20% more than they should be, according to a real estate friend of mine. As for apts? In the nicer neighborhoods? JeffC! My apt, if listed for a new tenant, is going for about 30-40% more than what I'm paying right now.

                  • My house has continued to go up in price. Significantly.

A coworker was telling me his son had an offer $50k above his list and the deciding factor was one had to get a mortgage and the other had cash.

Yup. People are fleeing cities since everyone's working remotely and everyone needs more space. As for me, I'll be remote almost through next summer, and even after that I don't know how much I'll actually go into the office.

I'd sure hate to own commercial real estate right now.

                            • I figured that I would post something that most likely no one else here cares about. :-D

Restroom #4 https://www.google.com/maps/@38.8729...7i16384!8i8192 on Hains Point was open today after being closed for maintenance since the summer of 2016. I was shocked to see the padlock off the door when I stopped to use the water fountain on the left. It was still locked yesterday. I can't vouch for the women's side but the signs saying it is closed are also gone.

OTOH, either the water for the sinks wasn't connected or the sensors weren't working. That makes it good that the soap dispenser was also not filled because I wouldn't have liked to have soap on my hands and then find out that I couldn't remove it. :-D

                              • Had a meeting with financial planner, shared everything with him. He thinks the offer was not meant for people like me, that it's probably more for employees who are 60-ish, and for any that are closer to my age, they would be the second income in the house. Which honestly, I was hoping to hear. As the only income in my household, he said I'm too young to take this.

He did, however, think putting my place on the market now is a good idea. I could look into an apartment further out from the city, closer to my mom, not have to worry about condo fees, property taxes, etc. and have that proceeds from the sale work for me now.

I still have not decided, but it was good to get that information. He makes out either way as he would get any of the payout money if I do take the offer. I'm not going to think about it the rest of the weekend.
